Crappy cell phone pics cannot attest to the coolness of this vehicle. Even had little flappy covers on the stacks.
But no GRM stickers....

While this picture has an undeniable and oddly compelling coolness, I just cannot get past the inherent stupidity of working so hard to make something look like you don't give a crap about it.
Its possible it looked that way already other than the suspension.
I honestly like stacks when there is only one of them, its reasonably sized, not too tall, in the right place, etc etc.
Which really amounts to almost noone does it the way i like.

That's what I expected - it seems like you'd be lucky to find a VW from that era with faded paint over straight, rust-free bodywork, let alone a pristine unrestored example. Much easier to start with one that came by its rust honestly. Perhaps the whole intentional-rust scene got started by people with late model VWs who looked at the Mk I forums on the Vortex and started getting patina envy.

lol when we moved to TX i couldn't help but comment to my wife how sorry I felt for the TX women...
I think a single stack would have been better than two... and I could not imagine how annoying those flapper things are. Even big diesels have a hard time keeping them from clanging when idling
