It was a surprise for me too, but it turns out GRM contributor and photographic ninja Rupert Berrington is sending more awesome shots from the Pikes Peak Hillclimb this year.
Check out the whole gallery here:

If you fall in love with one, support our guy Rupert by ordering a print from his site at www.rupertberrington.me
The race isn't really until tomorrow, but some of the folks who I really wanted to watch attack the mountain are already out.
Also, Colorado is pretty darn gorgeous at dawn.

Fixed it- the .me extension is picky. Thanks for the heads up.
So, next year it's going to be paved right? Here come the quick times! Next year, the 1205 bike class will be SUPER quick. Unlimited shouldn't be anything less than an ALMS prototype.
Am I the only one who is excited about this?
Anyone?

I'm bummed. The dirt is way more fun.
The Banks car is out? Darn. That one sounded so nice...
is this everyone's hero bill caswall ...forgot his name off hand from the windy city?
Caswell crashed the car in a practice run.

bummer to hear about that...guess we need to start giving him ideas for a new ride to run in mexico next year.
Dallenbach and Caswell are both out?
Go Rhys and Rod then!
I love how many cameras the GoPro car has.
I wonder how much they ruin all of that sensitive aero.

Seat Leone I think.
How awesome is this camera rig! (very awesome)
Caswell crashed?! Damn. I was really rooting for that guy.
Go Rhys! I'm sick of hearing about the Japanese dude and his "downforce with wheels." Rhys' Hyundai looks more badass, too.
Wow, that was the longest day ever. Up at 4 am and quit uploading photos at 3 am. The race also was the longest I have ever attended in 25 years. I got off the mountain around 9 pm. Tajima broke the ten minute barrier after 17 years of trying! Race day shots coming soon but here is a quick video of one of the more dramatic moments of the day:
http://youtu.be/7rVdS8Qnvb8
When I heard the 10 minute barrier had been broken, I immediately thought, "That's good and all, but, since I've read they were paving more and more of the road every year until it's paved all the way to the top, how much more of this year's event was run on a paved surface? Then it's almost apples and oranges. SO:
Was the length of this year's paved surface the same as last year's?

that suzuki is one of the nastiest looking car's I've ever seen imo (in a good way) but your nationalism is definitely allowable
In reply to triumph5:
They paved about another mile and a half since last year but most drivers say that some new compromises and problems with the pavement cancel out most of the advantages. First off the road is narrowed uniformly to 24 feet wide where in the past there were bits as wide as 40 feet in the corners. Guardrails have been added in some corners also making it tighter. The most dangerous problem is that dirt and pebbles get thrown on to the course if anyone cuts a corner or goes wide. Dallenbach went off in practice because of this, the road felt like ice and was full of rocks and dirt. Motorcycle racers get the worst as they run last. Lots of crashes for them this year.
In reply to Javelin:
Dallenbach was fine and ran the next session after they pulled him out. Unfortunately on race day he broke his drive shaft at the start line.
Rhys finished second and Rod beat Zwart in Time Attack 2WD
