Epoxying aluminum is a royal pain because of the oxide layer.  Getting some "tooth" for mechanical interlocking is the only route to success.

I'm with Dean. Not Pecora but Dow Corning 795 silicone sealant has been used to hang glass off of aluminum extrusions and last for decades.
 

Fill a groove with it or cut it with a knife. Best to just tool it before it cures. Stays slightly pliable. I don't think sanding is an option. Note: it'll probably take a specific primer to bond properly.

edit: re read your OP. Silicone can't be painted. But it is available in a lot of colors.
