After 19 years, my jack died today. Can GRM crew recommend a decent jack to use at home, for tire rotatations, etc? Low profile floor jack would be helpful. I prefer something that has good range and weight.
Heaviest to lift Toyota Tacoma. Lightest are sports cars 1800-2700lb range.

The top HF jack, with the T handle. It fit under my Elise (RIP), and it will lift my Land Cruiser.
Another vote for HF. I have the 3 ton STEEL low profile jack. It's been bulletproof. The aluminum "racing" jacks don't seem to hold up quite as well.
I have the aluminum "racing" jack too. It failed, which is why I bought the steel T handle one. Then it fixed itself, so I now have 2. I use the big one almost all the time and only pull the aluminum one out if I need 2 jacks.
HF for the win, I use one on my personal shop and work shop.

Another vote for HF. I keep the low profile 2.5 ton (same as the three ton but 7 years old now) in the garage and take the 1.5 ton aluminum racing jack to Autocross events. It seems that’s what nearly everyone does, I see very very few non-HF jacks.

I'm not sure you're actually allowed to go to an autoX without the cheapest HF aluminum jack. Mine has probably lasted me 7-8 years.
I don't know how heavy a Tacoma is, but it was good enough for a 4300-pound 62 Thunderbird.

I bought the HF steel 3 ton (non-low profile), and regret it only because it requires driving up on blocks to fit underneath lower vehicles.
But that's no fault of the jack, and other than that's it's been flawless.
Just to be clear, the magical 2.5 low-profile HF jack is this one?
I've been in the market for one too as the el cheapo I got from HF is... not nice.

So I am confused, as some are recommending steel and some are saying aluminum. Is there a consensus?

I have the 1.5 aluminum one. I've had it for years and I use it to lift my Tacoma, although I occasionally add a 4x4 block as a spacer.

For taking with you, whichever aluminum one meets your needs. The steel jack above is HEAVY... you don't want to be lugging it around!

I have the same jack and would highly recommend it, but this model has been discontinued. It's been replaced by the Daytona 3 ton long reach jack, which is the functionally the same except it has a regular jack handle instead of the T-handle.

Thank you. I need it for garage and driveway only. The one you linked is about 75lb. That is fine. I like that its low profile. I wonder if there are any HF coupons. That $99 one you sent, sounds excellent.

Prices seem to be $99-$179, with no real differentiator with the prices. I feel like the capabilities are the same. Is this a "spend more, to get more quality?" Thanks
There seems to be about 20-25lb diffference in aluminum vs steel

This Arcan from Northern Tool has been a real champ for over 8 years. I bought a second one to lift up a car evenly. They go on sale for $129 frequently.

The one I have has to be 6 or 8 years old now. It was the top of the line at the time, their most expensive model then, at least in the store. SKU 68050. It appears to have been superseded by ones like this:
