As my RX7 continues to evolve, more and more openings between the outside world and the cabin appear. This becomes a bit of an issue for rallycross and I'd like to plug them up. Ideally I'd cut patch panels out and weld them in, and someday I might, but not now.
So how do I go about this? Hunt down a wide variety of rubber plugs? Use some special tape?
Paging irishj44 - I think I remember him mentioning something about hvac aluminum tape, with a piece of light cardboard or something covering the actual hole?
I bought a plastic box with dozens of rubber grommets and plugs in assorted sizes. I probably found it at Pep Boys.
sheetmetal and window sealer
Sheet metal, drill holes, and pop rivets?
Sheetmetal and PL premium for the bigger holes, add pop rivets if it makes ya feel better.
So bigger holes sheet metal and sealant. Gromets where they fit. Aluminum tape for weird shapes and what not. Sounds like a plan.

Yeah... the good thick aluminum tape from racer wholesale is really tough. You can actually use it to affix body panels if you are feeling lazy.

I have rolls and rolls of this stuff for this very reason. After i removed the sound deadening/insulation out of the MX6, i found many strange-sized holes that were apparently only sealed by insulation.
Taped them all up as a stop-measure before welding them shut at some point down the road. (probably never.)

You can get big gromet/body plug assortments on Ebay if you search for old Mustang and Mopar stuff. Entire body plug kits for restorations in the $40-$60 range.
Aluminum ductwork tape would probably work for everything under fist sized and not look too bad if you're lazy.

I can't believe GPS came in here and actually answered the question.
It was kind of a let down.

Agreed. With a name like that you would think he would have taken the opportunity to use it AS the answer.
