My concern with a Chinese made EV would probably be more related to potential surveillance and data security than anything else. They have a government mandate that requires EVs there to essentially track their owners and report data in real time to a central government tracking center. Their government monitors the movement of their people very closely with this tech, and that's just what they publically admit to collecting and using. There's a reason why they recently banned Teslas (and their multiple cameras) from Chinese government facilities.
That's not to say that other manufacturers and governments couldn't do the same thing. But if they are, it's at least a little more discrete.

I mean, what are they going to report? Guy with beard got in at 6:25 AM. Drove 30.2 miles slightly over the posted speed limit. Parked for 8.5 hours. Same guy with beard got in at 4:00 PM, drove 29.7 miles slightly under the posted speed limit. Parked for 17 minutes. Same guy with beard entered vehicle at 4:43 PM with a bag and drove 3.2 miles. Vehicle parked for 13.5 hours while connected to a fixed charging station. Wi-fi connected to "SupermanDoesLoisLane", where 7.2 MB of data transfer occurred during the 13.5 hours.
Oh, yeah, I'm not a spy and live a boring life...

Just because I have nothing to hide doesn't mean that's not an invasion of my privacy, or that I'm comfortable giving that access to foreign governments. They'd theoretically have audio, video, and gps tracking ability at minimum. If you sync your phone to the car, then they have all of your contacts, photos, emails, etc as well. If you financed your vehicle with the manufacturer, they could even gain access to financial info and SSNs, etc. In China, for the Beijing olympics, they were showing the ability to Remotely disable vehicles, which goes beyond simple monitoring and gets deep into controlling the free movement of citizens.
I'm not saying that a Polestar owner is definitely going to have these issues. But it's been demonstrated inside of Chinese borders for several years now, and that would give me more concern when dealing with Chinese made tech products.

Personally, Elon Musk's antics, the sub-par build quality of Teslas, and the desire to not be driving the same EV as everyone else moves the needle strongly towards Polestar for me.
exactly! I can't support Musk and Tesla they way he has screwed his customers over and spent millions fighting against the interests of car enthusiasts
