I've read about it for years in various magazines and it sounded pretty interesting. I'm going west next week for a vacation and depending on how it goes we may be near there. Is this still as big as the magazines made it sound? Since The Wife and I like swap meets and flea markets would this be worth planing around?
I have no experience with Pomona but this link may help you find other car shows any day of the week.

Long Beach Swap Meets are a big deal too. Next one is Sun, Oct 11th or Sun, Nov 9th

For either event, bring a lot of money because you will see running car that you have not seen in 20 years and you will want to take them all home.
Cross country drive home???
Pomona is still massive. Even if you arrive on Friday as a vendor the place is too big to make a complete round. Also all of the rally good deals get done on Friday between the vendors as the gates don't open to the public until Saturday morning.
There is a little bit of everything. And a lot of the same crap you see everywhere marked way too high.
I'm like 30min from Pomona, what is this?
I've been several times and it's great. I've planned vacations around it.
Thanks, We have no real plans for the trip but I have loosely laid out where we will go to the Grand Canyon, up to Redwood Forest and then work our way down the coast and end up in Pomona on Sunday.

The Costa Mesa cars and coffee is supposed to be the Irvine event reborn. Irvine C&C was shut down late last year, and it lived up to the hype. I have not gone to the new one yet to see if it carries on Irvine's legacy.

That's a lot of ground to cover! Grand Canyon to Redwoods may be farther than you think.
Grand Canyon National Park in AZ to Redwood National Park is like 1,000 miles.
About the same as NYC to Daytona Beach.
I'm not sure how much we will end up seeing. We have 12 days and no plan. The only things she really wants to see are the Grand Canyon and the Redwood Forest. We are flying in and out of Vegas, renting a car and going.
Has anyone been to both Pomona and Jefferson www.jeffersonswapmeet.com
Wondering how they compare. I live an hour from Jefferson and go there as a vendor spring and fall.
Well, with 12 days, sure, you could do all that.
Here's a tip. My wife and I once did a trip to Vegas and we splurged on a Grand Canyon helicopter ride right from the strip. This was not cheap but we saw it as a "splurge". We made reservations for a mid price, mid day trip. We got called the morning of and were asked if we would be willing to move our time to the really expensive sunset tour complete with a landing on a remote ledge of the Canyon. Once landed, Champagne would be served while the sun set, etc. No additional charge to us.
How this worked is that someone had bought this Mega package and that trip was going with empty seats. The flight we were supposed to be on was either oversold or under sold and it made more sense to them to put us into the mega trip. It really was a cool trip. Head away from The Strip in daylight. See the canyon in the daylight including flying down into the canyon. Wait for sun to set and then head back to the strip in the dark seeing all the lights.
Another tip: I suspect you will be traveling this by rental car. You'll want to be sure you have a rental car that you like.
In years past, I used to be in rental car nearly every week. This is from an actual experience and from what I learned from the Hertz employees. I picked up a car in my home town for a 5 hour drive. The car had what very much seemed like a tire out of balance. I contacted the small office I rented from but they had nothing else to give me. I followed their advise. About 2 hours into my trip I would be passing the Dayton, Ohio airport. There I pulled into The Hertz lot and let them know that the car had an issue. The Hertz people were super helpful and super apologetic. I don't remember what I got but I pretty much had my pick of the liter and I was back on my way quickly.
I used this tactic again when the car I originally got was not to my liking. I returned the car to another location with a bogus complaint of how the car was driving.
If you do this type of return, you will want to return it to a place, like an airport, that has a huge selection of cars.
Absolutely! Do it. Comedy club in Hermosa is fantastic, as is Queen Mary in Long Beach. There is a cool car museum just south of the LAX airport and of course the Petersen is fantastic too.
I'm going to have to look at the helicopter ride, she'd probably love that.
I somehow forgot about all the things in and around LA to see and do. Comedy and the Queen Mary have been added to the list.

No way he is going to Redwoods National Forest (way in northern CA). He's probably thinking more like Sequoia.
Of note, if you are going to Sequoia area, Yosemite is not that far north and is very car accessible (make sure to get there early, car accessible means it gets crowded quickly).
Of Note: The Peterson Automotive Museum (near La Brea Tar pits) is closed until December!
Lots and lots of things to see in LA Wall, lots and lots of traffic, so plan carefully. We are here to help, so ask away.
She's pretty sure she wants to go to Redwood. The plan as of now is to go from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and back, then from Vegas to Redwood and the down the coast. This is all subject to change depending on how she tollerates the flight and car rides but she usually is does pretty well.
The USS Iowa is docked in San Pedro now too. And the Peterson is closed until December. But you could hit both easily once the museum re-opens. In fact, I'll be doing just that

Wow, that is a LONG drive then. I am guessing she aims to see the tallest tree in the world.
Be aware though, the actual location of the tree is not disclosed. Plenty of other super tall ones around though I am sure.
I am sure it's nice, but you don't need to go near that far north to see giant redwoods. The Oakland hills are full of normal sized ones! Going down from San Francisco and seeing the Sequoia's at Big Sur might be a good alternative.
California north of San Francisco is a very rural area though, so if you are in for a long country drive, that could work.
When she was stuck home she started watching National Park documentaries. Since then shes been reading up on parks to see out west and is pretty excited to see a big hole and tall trees. She's fine with long rides in the country and sleeps during stretchs of interstate. I'm just excited to be out of work for a couple of weeks.
