I forgot there's a guy about 50 miles from me who parts out lots of 986, 987 boxsters and sometimes 996 911's.
I am thrilled that I do not also live 50 miles from you. I'd really like a 996. (Really, a Cayman, but I'd have to work on it, so 996)

The owner needs to pull the car from the shop but it will be a couple of days since it is boxed in. I will update as soon as I get the info from him .
That 928 looks to be a later one. Any details on that?

Customer car. Probably not for sale.

Anyone put a Subaru motor in one ?
I looked into this a few years ago and it’s not easy. The Porsche starter mounts to the engine and the Subaru starter mounts to the transmission, so there’s no place to put the starter. Or something like that.
I thought the Audi V8 was the easier swap in those?

What about the newer 6cyl Subarus?

For quick and easy, I'd drop a 2.7L M96 3-chain engine in. The guy that Yupididit mentioned is clearing out most of his old Boxster stuff and has one for $3,250.

I'm pretty sure this Boxster is a 5 chain engine with variocam plus. They aren't exactly compatible. If I get this car, I will be looking for a nice used 5 chain 2.7 to drop in it quick. I love blue cars....

Technically yes, because the trans is the same 01E (case-wise) as used in front wheel drive V8 Audis. Flywheels for the V8 are hard to come by, at least for the Audi manual-trans swappers.
The starter issue for Subaru engines is not insurmountable, there was a Subaru rally car that had a complete Audi 4000 driveline swapped in because it was much less breakage-prone than the Subaru stuff. (4000 had 016 trans, 01E is an updated 016) Never did hear from them how they managed the starter, although given that they had Audi hubs in the Subaru suspension, they probably invented a way easily enough.

I really need to finish up my '03 AUX into a 2000 S swap. For a Boxster Audi V8 swap, the fit needs to be adjusted slightly at the top and front for the Audi AUX V8. The ABZ engines have a little better clearance at the front since they don't have the cam adjusters. When I was planning to do the ABZ swap I got an adapter from 034 Motorsports - stock was limited.
Now with the AUX engine, I used an Audi S6 flywheel and clutch combo. There's more discussion and better info here about flywheels:
Thread: V8 Models: What Flywheel And Clutch Combo Are You Running?
Here's the best one I know of that was done right: FS: Boxster S Race Car with Audi 4.2 V8 engine and LOTS of MoTec
He had a Subaru swap in that chassis before he did the V8. Boxster Subaru conversion interest?
My friend put a Corvair motor in his 914 to make his own version of a914-6
Just saying........

That is an impressive Audi swap. I bet the sounds that car makes are drool worthy. Silly to say but I’d just go stock engine with IMS solution, new WP, and new AoS on this one to save it from the scrap heap. I’d probably drive it to and from work a lot after that too. Then I could modify my 00 S for other activities.
I would do it but get the price down a bit more. Then do as AnthonyGS said. You end up with a nice car at a decent price point that you can enjoy for a while.

Yes, good. I didn't mean an Audi swap would be a good plan for this car. A nice car like that with a straight body and clean interior, just fixing it with a stock(ish) engine is the way to go.
Just to close this, the guy ended up posting on Auto Trader and it sold before he could get me the link even though I said I had people interested. Sorry folks.
