Not my car but these are the exact rims and tires pictured on the current owners car which is identical to mine.  16x7 Team Dynamics Motorsport with 205/50 BFG g force sport comp 2s.  Too big/heavy? I have another car those tires would be perfect for and I could get some better sized tires, maybe 205/45 or 205/40. I guess that's my question, are these going to be too heavy or is the handling going to outweigh the weight? (Funny, lol)

The tires are taller than stock by a bit. 205/50-15 is close, but still taller. Might be nice to extend 2nd gear a bit, if you make enough power to capitalize.

It's more about getting away from the 14s on it now and this is all I can find and stay in budget.  I'd really love to be able to pick wheels and tires but these 16x7s are the only choice so far.  I cant even find a set of stock 15s

The falcon Azeni in 205/40r16 is the same outside diameter as the 185/60r14s on it now and available for $125 per.  S Drives in 195/45 are available for about the same price and nearly the same size too.  Just seeing what's out there.  195/40 in a Federal UHPS for cheap

How much do they weigh? I'd rate 16s as just OK, but since it's for the challenge, you have to balance maximum performance with how good of a deal you're getting. As long as they're reasonably cheap I can't imagine that you would have a hard time moving them on if a better set of 15s comes up.

Advertised at $250 wheels and tires.  Seller is willing to write separate receipts in case I dont use tires for Challenge.   It HAS to handle better than the 185/60r14s on it now.  I went to work and weighed the 14" combo at almost 27 lbs total.  All the 16" tires I've found are at 17 pounds or more and even tho I've read these 16s are a light strong wheel I doubt they weight 10 pounds or less so I'm pretty sure unsprung weight is going to rise.....not my first choice, but no drag race should make this the year of the Answer

So, $200 for four used tires and $50 for the wheels they are on?

Try these Craigslist searches "4x100" "Miata" "4 lug". I generally don't have problems finding 15 inch wheels. Also remember that a lot of smaller domestic and imports used the 4x100 pattern. The cheap Challenge setup for a Miata is 15s and SM7s.

I haven't asked how he valued the wheels VS tires and wont make a suggestion.  Whatever he says is what the budget will reflect

I've always suggested to the seller a fair split. For example on one set of wheels the tires are good usable condition.  It was $240 total so I suggested $120 for the wheels and $120 for the tires. Another set I got  was $80 total with two "roller tires".  I broke that down at $20 for the tires and $60 for the wheels.  I think as long as you're fair in your breakdown it should be fine.

Know anyone in Daytona?  Maybe we're spoiled in FL.

I wouldn't rule out the use of the 6x14 stock wheels. If you can find some sticky tires the car can handle well on them. Look at the autocross results for the various Miatas from 2017 and you'll see very close times between  a 7x15/SM7 shod car (8th place, mine) and the 7th place car on 6x15 stock wheels.  I don't remember what tires the girls ran on it. Other Miatas were close behind, too. If your 16 inchers are what you want post Challenge, that's fine, but I wouldn't assume they'll automatically be quicker than the narrower 14s. Suspension and tire choice can help a lot.

I really want the stock 15x6 wheels so I can run autox after Oct without getting stuck at the bottom of a bunch of heavily molded cars.  I'm gonna buy the wheels just because the guy is the SCCA chair for the Birmingham area and parts out Miatas.  If I use them once and sell to a Honda kid, the connection and a new car friend who knows about Miatas and can teach me AutoX will be worth it.  He said he has a Hot S package sway bar he will throw in the deal too!

Jim, in your boots id buy the heavy 16s and street tires. Use them on the street. R comps on the stupid light 14s for autocross and challenge purposes.  Or, the 15s and sm7 slicks ive offered.

With your intended suspension and use, sticky 14s (slicks) will get you everything that car has to offer.

One could argue that a bigger stock front bar and 4 good used tires to put on my Volvo I stole 2 tires off of for a different car are worth the $250 I'm paying.  Hes also helping me make connections in the local SCCA community, other Miata owners near me, has 4 parts cars that are similar to mine and has offered other parts free because hes familiar with the Challenge, although I insisted I must pay something to avoid the gift/FMV thing if I get any of it.

In other words yes, but I think he'd do all of the above whether I was buying high dollar rims from him for cheap or not.

Arent you glad I waited to paint my first set of stripes until AFTER I got the Miata? Lol, I've wanted to do that forever but never had the right car.  I doubt it would have worked so well on the e39.

OMG the GRIP!  I've driven the car for a few days and I feel superhuman behind the wheel.  I cant see how it gets too much better than this at stock power levels.
