I replaced the rear rotors, pads, and the left rear caliper and bled the brakes on my 2007 Mazdaspeed3 yesterday and today. Yes, it took me two days to do it AND I missed out on a day of work because my RX-7's brake lights weren't working. Needless to say, I was pissed.
I've worked on brakes before with my RX-7, but I'm thinking I messed up somewhere with the MS3. The biggest problem I encountered was with retracting the caliper pistons. The right rear would not retract until I bled some fluid out and the left would not retract at all, even when drained and removed. That forced me to buy a reman, which came in this morning. I bought a Mity-Vac to help with bleeding (didn't have an extra person to help) and the instructions said that with ABS systems, you need to pump 25-45 times to relieve ABS pressure. Could this have caused the problems I had with the calipers? Could it also be the reason the brake pedal doesn't feel 100%? I've bled all around with fresh ATE fluid, but it still feels slightly mushy. I plan to relieve ABS pressure before bleeding again tomorrow, and if that still doesn't work, I'll have them bled at a shop.
