Hey guys,
So...I've a got a line on a 74 or 75 RHD Postal Jeep with a six cylinder in it for $170. There are $430 in back fees at the dmv which is why he dropped it so low, it's a buddy of mine that used to do sat rural mail delivery. So? Thoughts and opinions? If it runs good like he says, is this the no brainer I think it is? I really shouldn't be spending the $170 on another car right now but...i mean...you know! It's dirt cheap and it'll scratch the jeep itch I've been having the last couple years, even if it's not 4x4. Plus no smog!
What should I be looking for when I check it out? Any awesome ideas that will make me want it even more?
Any awesome ideas. Something like this.

there we go, my original post looked all messed up. wow on the link, i'm not quite thinking like that lol.
This is what I wanted to do if one ever fell in my lap.
I don't have any advice, but I test drove a DJ in the 90's. It really pulled hard but over 60 the brakes scared me out of buying it. Kind of wish I had. $700 was the asking. I didn't know how to wrench at all at the time. If I saw one like that today I'd grab it.
Just noticed several of these on eBay under salvage cars if you are into them
Hmmm...I'm a little torn, even based on their mods they said it was a mediocre jeep, but a good rescue vehicle that always starts. I could probably use a spare vehicle for cheap that can make junk yard runs, I'll check it out and let you guys know if I buy it. Thanks!
As I recall, they came with something like 4.11 gears in the rear.

The one Jimmy Nylund wrote about was 3.08, but was changed to 4.11 during the conversion to 4x4. There were some that came factory as 4x4, and they were 3.73, I think. Don't bother looking for the standard 4x4 DJ's though...most of them went to Alaska and didn't come back. They'll be.....tough....to find. But not impossible, so don't let a naysayer talk you out of a craigslist search!

This is what I would do with it:

Different strokes, I suppose. I was thinking something along these lines:
Where do you find old mail Jeeps, gov't vehicles, etc...for sale anyway? I saw aussiemg said Ebay, but are there other places to look for these?
I remember plenty of late nights going backwards through drive-thrus in a buddies old Mail Jeep. Little too dorky to be seen in public nowadays though (at least sober).
A friend of mine dropped a mail jeep on a K20 chassis and made a mighty fine mud truck! (Yee Haaaa!)

2nd one is actually pretty cool. They must have old school style suspensions making this fairly easy albeit uncommon, I found a couple others done up like rods.
