I went out today to check on a valve cover I was powder coating. I looked at it, was happy with it, then TOTALLY forgot to turn off the oven. Instead of curing it for 20 minutes, I cured it for just under 3 hours. Is there harm in that? I cure at a pretty low temp, 350 so I think it'll be fine.
It's probably bonded to the valve cover on a molecular level. As long as you never want to get it back off, you should be fine.
I have no clue, but if it still looks good, it should be fine. I'm kind of surprised there wasn't some color shift.

I haven't taken it out of the oven yet. I'll knock it around tomorrow to see if it's strong. It's gloss black, still looks gloss black. I think my low curing temp helped.

You should be good to go we cure all the time at work for 3 - 4 hours. Its needed when we do thick castings and electric motors. We run our oven at 350°F also.
it might be less "orangy" than most powder coating jobs.

Thanks for that. Makes me feel better. This is for someone else, so I wanted to make sure it'd be ok.

Do you mean orange peel? I'be never experienced that with PC. Every job I've done has looked like glass, unless it's a cast piece, then you have the texture. I'll post a pic of this job later.

Given the cure time, of course "black" is what you'd end up with, regardless of what color you started with! Nah, you'll be fine.

Haha. Good one. I didn't think about that.
so, I still don't have a pic to post, but I'll tell you this. On the second valve cover I forgot to de-gas it. For other powder coaters here, DO NOT forget to de-gas. I have bubbles! Looks like I have to strip it and re-coat it. I hate the prospect of stripping powder coat for the very reasons I love the stuff. Oh well, live and learn.
