Powder coating

Anyone in the Ann Arbor area know where I could get a set of wheels blasted and powder coated? What kind of price could I expect? I got a set of 16" Miata wheels for next to nothing ,but they're flaking and corroded from beingdriven in the winter.

A big chunk of the cost of any job will be prep -- can you blast them yourself?

It can be done in Flint but I do not know the price.

At $85 a wheel, it's not worth it. i don't have sandblasting equipment, so it's hand sanding and Dupli-color probably.

Try some Jasco jelled paint stripper. Works a treat. It's also worth asking around, prices do tend to vary. A coworker got a full set of wheels done for $80 a few years back.

My wife and I paid $50 a wheel to powdercoat her Corvette rallies.

Look for a large, outdoor commecial blasting company; they may cut you a deal if they can add it to another job. That's what my friend who runs a powder-coating business does, with good results.

I'd expect $85 a wheel to be all-inclusive, with room to negotiate down on the price.

racinginc215, Good idea, but I don't have a compressor, either. Once we put this place up for sale and buy another there will be a big shop and proper tools.
