pretty awesome watch!
I saw that the other night. It was pretty impressive. I wonder what they could make on ITBs or a pair of Weber sidedrafts.
That is a lot of power for a NA build. I bet it's expensive though. And probably not a single OEM piece in it, lol. Dirt track racing is serious business, I think it's lost most of its grassroots entry-level element unfortunately.
That’s impressive. I haven’t watched the build yet, so I’m going to assume they are using off the shelf, regular guy parts and elbow grease, which is impressive. (Toyota and others have done similar figures, NA, with less displacement)

And I have heard of naturally aspirated, 8 valve Esslinger Limas pushing 400hp, on gasoline, as well.
One of which was in a Mk1 Escort, which had to be one hell of a ride!
I saw that in my recommended feed thing but i didn't click on it because (iirc) i DID watch them make less hp than that with nitrous on a 305 and pretty much wrote the whole show off. I'll give this one a look..
Confession time:
I have always dreamt of building a high-RPM, 2.3 Lima based screamer and stuffing it into a ratty Foxbody. I'd give Esslinger and Racer Walsh all the money. And driving it on the street, just for fun. It doesn't make sense and it probably wouldn't work very well but dumb ideas don't have to make sense.
Since the first time I watched mini stock cars at bearfield raceway I've wanted too build an N/A Lima. Instead I built 2 turbo cars because it was alot cheaper. Some of the ministock cars actually ran 2.3 strokers. They sound great being revved way too high for a stock 2.3
It's weird they're putting these old episodes on YT. I stopped watching them on their website when they installed an ad-block-detector.
This episode had me wanting to build up a 2.3 for a while. It's cool how he tunes the little deflectors inside the manifold. I realized though that I have nothing to put one in. I can always dream. Esslinger has a nice catalog of parts.

they are on motortrends on demand thing as well
Do people ever take a Lima and bolt it up to an old Ford transaxle? 268 hp in an old Fiesta or ZX2 would be a riot. I've bolted a lima transmission to a Zetec; why not the otherway around?
MrChaos said:doesnt the zetec weigh signifigantly less than the lima?
I weighed one with no accessories, but otherwise complete from a/t flyfwheel to throttlebody and it was around 260lbs IIRC.

from internet searches, the lima weighs 420lbs and the turbo version weighs 450 lbs

Edit: when you have to use a custom made block to achieve results, it’s no longer the engine ford made. Disappointing to say the least.
That engine they built in the link has to be 20-30k (factor in labor and shipping costs). Neat, but not what I was expecting.

You don't need the unobtainium block to have 400hp out of a 2.3. It was used to due the tv needs, aka shameless self promotion. Esslinger has since either been churning out their billet BB7's or putting together ecoboosts lately and somewhat shunned the Lima. Plus who's going to spend $2500 for a 4cyl block, $2500 cylinder head, and all the related components just to barely break into the 9's in the quarter?

Transplosions.
Also, I am not certain but I think the starter position would give you fits.
And Limas are TALL engines. They wouldn't fit in most traditional front-drivers, and if you were going to go mid- or rear-engine, it's much better to use an ACVW trans.
