I recently purchased a beater of an '88 Honda Prelude off criagslist for pocket change so I can take the Miata off the road for some add-ons. It isn't the injected version, it has dual side draft carbs.
I finally got it road worthy and inspected and on the road. The other night, after all day of driving with multiple starts, I went to start the car and there was an audible 'click' then out go the lights. The car is acting like it is getting no battery power, dash lights wont come back on, none of the interior lights are on, nothing.
The battery is brand new and has a full charge. I cannot find a problem so I get a jump and the car starts right away. The charge light comes on, it wasn't on before, if I let the car idle, the headlights go out but the car still runs.
So today, thinking it had a bad ground, I replaced the ground strap and the battery cables. Hop in, car starts right up, no charge light. I drive around all day.
Get in tonight to run another errand, 'click' no power. Now I have daylight and I'm not in a gas station parking lot so I investigate. I can't find anything out of the ordinary. With the key in the ignition, I opened the door and faintly, like really faintly, I could hear the door ajar dinger.
I reach under the dash, jiggle the main relay, check all the fuses, car still won't turn over or show dash lights.
I pull the negative battery cable off, reattach it, I get dash lights and the car starts up like normal.
Anybody have any idea what is going on? I tried looking around some Prelude forums but I couldn't find anything in their m4d tYt3 drifta y0! world, and I gave it a really strong effort.
