primer? for garage paint job.

painting a junky car in the garage. 

Not 100% sure if I am going with rustoleum house paint job.

or if i will grab a can of real auto motive paint from the local stores.  and squirt it through the gun. 

will it matter which primer I use?

anyone suggest an in expensive primer that will work for either top coat?

I need to sand it down to remove a sunburnt wrap. and i am sure i will need to primer back up the areas before hosing it. 

going to be a few week process.  sanding sections during free time.  hit it with primer. wait a few days. level the primer. 

I just dont want crazy interactions with my top coat. 

Are you talking about painting the garage or a car in the garage? Because we do a lot of both around here.

Rustoleum primer does not react well to real paint. Thats all i got.

You don't sand off a wrap either.

Heat and peel.

I've used the Rustoleum wet-sandable automotive spray paint with 2-part "real" auto paint, and it was fine.

Use real paint and real primer. Painting is too much work to use crap materials.

What about the tractor supply primer ?

Can you paint over it with regular automotive paint ?

we are past that.. its burnt.. decade old.

looks like aligator skin. cracked through. done... it wont peel

Simple rule is: 2 part paint needs 2 part primer.   1 part paint can go over 1 part or 2 part primer.
