Keep or sell post... Looking for advice.

So I recently picked up an 85 944 with a blown timing belt. I had already figured in my head on doing an LS or other swap, so blown timing belt wasn’t an issue and I got a pretty good deal on the car.

Looking at things now, I can’t justify spending the money on doing the swap right now. There just more useful places to put money into. I knew it’d be into next year till I could mess with the car at all, but really thinking about it, it could be multiple years before I could really think about putting real money into the car.

So, do I just sell the car now so I don’t have to think about it, or keep it until I can mess with it?

The interior is pretty meh already, the paint is decent, but not a factory color, so I’m not sure if the value would really go up if I keep it for longer or not.

As Patrick once said, if you start to think about moving on then go ahead and just move on.*

Depends on several factors. How well do you like the thing? Is it a Dream Car that if you sell it will you look for another one later on? Do you have a place to keep it so that it doesn't become a rusted hulk before you can work on it? Will it cost you anything to keep it?  Do you live with some one that will tell you if you bring home another project car, she is going to get a chimpanzee to live with you and the car In the shop? Sorry that last one is one I have to consider when I look at a new project car.

Sounds like time to simplify your life. Other things have priority now & who knows what your priorities will be when you have the chance to get back to it? Not like you will never be able to find another 944 project in the future if you decide that is the direction you want to go later..

I have to agree with Drock.  If you can store it and it won't get ruined, keep it.  I regret selling/getting rid of most every project car.  You have it, keep it.  If you come across a better car, then sell it or strip it down for parts.  You may come across another engine and just drop it in.  You can't do that if you don't have the car.

Are you excited about this particular car and project? If so I'd say keep it. The nice thing about big projects being put on hold is it gives you time to watch for bargains on the things you need and slowly accumulate the parts instead of the financial hit of buying things all at once.

How feasible is fixing the original setup? I assume this is an interference engine and wasted, I dont know. But maybe fix the car and drive it in the meantime until the time comes to do the swap.

If you're not particularly excited about the car then sell it.

So thoughts on 944 value now vs in the future?

Need to do a little research on repairing the stock engine. Supposedly pull the head, replace the bent valves and put it back together. If that's really the case I may investigate repairing the stock engine.

I think the odds are pretty good that I'll sell it.

Wasn't it $500 plus wheels?  If it's clean you should do fine, if you can stomach the work to fix it you should do very good

Yeah, that's what I paid. Starting to consider fixing it and driving it stock for a while and then go from there. Could always change, but then I could probably make a little bit on it.

I LS swapped my 951.  I wouldn't do it again.
