I wanted to teach the 15 year old how to install a fender on our (his) 86 f250 former fire truck. Should have taken an hour and turned out perfect. Not so much. Took all afternoon and is just this much off in so many places. DOH! Will revisit one day...
An afternoon spent wrenching with The Boy? Sounds like your project turned out just right.
Plus you always learn more from mistakes
18 year old me turned a weekend 300 dollar swap into a year long 4k swap. I just consider the bad ones to be a learning experience.
Rust repair on a Suzuki Sidekick. Need floor pans - ended up also replacing the rockers, building an entire rear cargo floor, and using the leg of an old swing set to replace the rotted cross brace that tied the front frame horns together(which also was the suspension pickup points).
I had one of those this weekend... Fixing a rust spot on the Jeep. I'm not a great welder. And apparently Jeep sheet metal is made of un-weldable garbage. There's a very fine line between not sticking at all and burning right through.
I managed to get it done, but it's ugly, needed way too much seam sealer and I still have to seal up the inside of the fix into the cabin. At this point it's waterproof and sealed from the wheel well, but there's a small opening from the cabin into the engine bay (blocked by the carpet and everything around there is rustproofed, but I still need to close it up).
