There are non of this type junk yards near Dothan Al, and the yards here think their parts are gold plated! I've had em quote me $250 for a fender... if I pulled it!!!
I might be needing a 5R55W transmission for an 02 to 05 exploder / Mercury mountaineer with the 4.6 modular V8.
This is a 5 speed AT, that is different than the cars or trucks used. The Aviator might have used it; not sure. Most around are the 6 cyl. with a different bell.
Anyway, I gotta check this one out more, see if it's fixable.
If it gets too expensive, I'll swap a MT in it... like THAT wouldn't be expensive!
02 only, had a stick behind the 6cyl, so if ya saw a pedal assy, I'm in! But they are rare as hens teeth.
If anybody could find that pedal assy. in a lot, it be you guys!
02-05 versions are a bit different than 95-01. I think it's electrical, like different connectors or something. Memory is fuzzy on that.
A little info here: https://thetransmissionshop.com/fords-four-versions-of-5r55/
A fender would be $10 at my local u pull yards.

Yup. I got one for a Corolla for $25 and I thought that was steep.

That's why I specified 02 to 05. And the 4.0 and 4.6 (despite being identical internally some years) have different bolt patterns. So I what I need, is someone has a decent yard near by, that ain't 1000 miles from Dothan, a 02 to 05 transmission from an exploder/Monty and maybe aviator, that came 2wd and v8. Pretty narrow group.
Thanks for the link. That is where I learned the 5r55w evolved from the pinto c3!!!

That's kinda my point I wish somone would tell the yards here
Actually they know. They just don't care. They'd rather crush it for pennies, than deal fairly with folks. But that's another story.
Do they have a 5r55W, from an 02 to 05 V8?
Numerous Explorers on the yard at

I drove down there once for Panther parts and found lots. You just never know what exactly you'll find until you show up.

uhh, idk what that is. just google the upull yards in york pa and check their inventory

Montgomery, although I hate the area, is WELL worth the drive!
That's exactly what I was asking for

Your transmission search is hampered because it's a unicorn 2wd. For the most part they were 4wd. Now you can just swap the output shaft, but then you're committing yourself to rebuilding it because everything has to come out anyway to swap shafts.
IMO, I'd do the most minimal rebuild with a master less steels kit and a valve body zip kit from sonnax. Pull the trans yourself to save you about $1500. I mean I could rebuild it myself and save $3k, but I digress.

My exact thoughts. The soft parts kit (motorcraft, no less) is only $155!
I've got to borrow a good scanner (or I know of is loans out, one is broken) and dig into it that way first, pull the pan and do a filter / fluid swap (since some azz hat decided not to put a dip stick on em )
From reading, if it's not solenoid related, there are a few hard part fixes can be done without pulling it. While replacing the "likely suspect" (I forget what it is, but found a good writeup) you can inspect the reverse band to see if broken
Ive never gone into a modern AT, so if I can get a back up plan for a couple hundred, I'd feel better! But I've worked on hydrostatic valve body's with solenoid controls for a living, so there's that.
Found one local (side hustle, not "official" scrap yard) for 450, but I think the pull a part in Montgomery will be cheaper... if they have one!
Fortunatly, unlike November, I'm not needing it yesterday, so have time to deal with this cheaply!

dude, i was trying to help. no need to be a jerk
I apreaciate the effort to help. It'd be easier to help, if you read it. Not trying to be ugly, just pointing it out. Isn't you starting a sentence with "uhh", or "dude" in that tone, you being a jerk?
Just a thought, before you think you want to start anything.
