In the early stages of converting a MB 190E from K-Jet to MS. I picked up an extra intake manifold from the junkyard, along with a fuel rail off a Saab 9-5 I think it was. Magically, these two engines have the same injector spacing, so the Saab rail and its injectors will push right into the 190's manifold (although changing how the rail clamps to the manifold will be required).

However, the CIS injectors are quite different than the more modern injectors off the Saab. The tip of the 190 injectors actually stick out into the intake runner maybe 1/4" or more. But with the Saab injectors pressed in, they're recessed at least 3/8" back into the runner. I'm guessing that the spray pattern on the new injectors would end up hitting the port if I leave it as is (tho I haven't tested it yet). So, what's the ideal location of the tip of a modern pulsed injector relative to the intake runner?

Generally they need to be just back from the port wall. Different injectors have different patterns. Some spray very tightly, some very wide.
