So I put some H&R sports on my e30. They are supposed to be a 1.25" front 1.25" rear drop on my car.

They are a 2.25" drop in the front and a 1.25" drop in the rear.

The fronts are not cut.

Anyone have any ideas?

My front sway bar is disconnected at the moment, but this should have no effect on ride height, right?

Could have been boxed wrong or you already had some sacked out front springs to begin with or you have them installed wrong maybe?

Sounds like H&R Race Springs, to me.

They are actually the sports, I cross referenced the markings on the springs. I wish they were races!

At this point I'm thinking that I had abnormally tall springs in the front to begin with.

on the new springs, what's the measurement from the ground to the pinch welds just behind the front tire and just ahead of the rear tire?

6.0" front
6.5" rear

but I'm sure the rears are still settling

edit: was tired and wrote down the wrong numbers, fixed that here

Kids these days wouldn't even call that low. Unless it scrapes I'd just go with it.

i still see a gap above the tire, so it's not even "low" yet.. how's the car look overall?

What's it like changing springs in Portland in January?

What's wrong with that? I have the race springs on my (duh) race car and it's lower, but still not so low I can't drive it on the street.

that ride height looks pretty even all around.

you actually want it riding an inch higher than that in the front?

That's low?

I think that's just how it is with H&Rs. I had race on my E30 and it also jacked the ass. Made the car an understeer queen. Then I put on GCs, leveled the car, made a world of difference, so neutral now, or a little bit butt-biased.

H&R's usually produce big-time rake on BMWs. There are threads everywhere about it, but they seem to be absent in most of the E30 forums...

BigD, did you just install the GC collars and keep the H&Rs?

Changing springs in Portland in January is an exercise in absolute manliness.

I don't really care so much about low, I just wanted the increased rates. We gots dems big potholes round here.

I don't like rake and have a steep driveway angle, so I'm thinking of getting a spare set of shocks and do the GC-copy, ebay spring-perch coilover kit.

Alternatively, I'll check for tophats/camber plates that add a little height and run them in front.

I haven't really checked the options in any kind of depth, so hopefully some other folks can chime in for both our benefit.

Well, you can double up (one on top, one on bottom) on the 9mm spring pads up front which will give a 12 mm increase, just about 0.5". I think I'm going to do that. IIRC they are about $6 a pop.

The cool thing is I have no brake dive anymore!

Also just learned last night that I have no rear sway bar. Not sure how that one escaped me before. So now the plan is to get a stock rear sway and a vert front sway and see what happens.

Taiden, your front is fine; the back's too high!

In reply to BigD:

Rake looks pretty good... but if I'm not mistaken, it looks like all you really did was lower the rear, right? So it's not so tail-high, and with less rake, the front lip is a little higher. Stuff at the axle, (read: oil pan) is still at the same height, correct?

OT: If you don't mind me asking, why do you have a giant CORBEAU sticker on your windshield? Are they sponsoring you in some way, say, discount on seats? I need seats for my E30! (also, mind PMing me a pic of the seat and the details?)

In reply to 7pilot:

Doesn't look like it, but that's a bad angle to judge ride height and rake, for me at least.

I think a pic of the entire car from the side would be good.
