See post #3 in that thread. The part I can't find an answer to is if you bolt a newer transmission to a phase 1 EJ22, how do you attach the lower mounting ear for the starter? The older transmissions have a stud there, and the newer engines (like DOHC 2.5, etc) have a bolt in that location. So the old transmission on the new engine would be fine, but I am not sure how you would make the old engine/new transmission combination work. It would be nice if it did because mine has an EJ22 and second gear is bad in every one of the proper transmissions I can find.
