Bummer man.

All this talk about F-series in 323s though... almost makes me want to grab it.

Man, I really wish 323s came stateside with the 1.8L BP....could be a really interesting FSP car. Especially since all the ones I've seen have enough rust that there's little need for any further weight reduction.

I don't know what engine the 323 came with (B8 maybe?), but I was solidly and surprisingly impressed with the B8's performance when paired with the 5 speed on the Protege DXes I test drove over the past few weeks. I can see that car with that engine completely adequate for a little DD beater. Swaps can come later.

I miss my protege...they are def. underrated. I have a chilton's somewhere for the '90-94 protege if you need it.

Konis/coilover adjusters available for the '90-'94 Protege?

What about an LSD?

Other than those two items, I think one with a fully built 1.8L would clean house as an FSP car.

Yes and Yes,

XelderX documented his FSP build pretty well on clubprotege... http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30189

I don't think he got it sorted for nationals this year.

Yeah, I know about Justin's car. He's also running a 2.0L motor, rather than a 1.8, as far as I know (he'd swapped from his other Protege).

Yes and yes...

But i don't see it dominating FSP. Maybe. Having driven a few BG chassis cars, and driving my car, i'm not sure i could give the nod either way, and i definitely don't see a 5th gen Celica dominating FSP. It hurts me deep inside, which is why i'm just going to give up and end up in SM.

I presently co-drive an ES Miata @ National events / DC Region/Susquehanna region SCCA events, and run other assorted locals in a ~75% Mazda3 HS car. Should be full-tilt by the end of this year. Really want to take it to Nationals in 2011, once I've got all the development work done. Kinda obligated to running the Miata in 2010, which is fine by me. Pretty much an easy button.

FWIW, I love the MX-6 GT you've got. First car I ever drove was an '88 DX, when I was ~7. Still kinda want one.

I'd be much more inclined to develop a Protege if the Civic Sis hadn't moved to FSP this year, now a VX with the D16A6 will clean up.

Thanks man. I haven't bothered to see where it's classed, but i think it'd either be DSP or SM at this point. Either way, it's horribly uncompetitive, and i don't really have the cajones to try to muscle it around any cones. It's overpowered, under-tired, lacking power steering, and the suspension setup sucks. It LOOKS phenomenal, but handles like butthole. Which is fine... it's just a Challenge car and a $900 score.

The Escort isn't HS anymore, and i'm kindof sad about that. That'll be an SM classed car by the end of Spring, but it's the girlfriend's car, so the suspension wont be up to snuff.

I need to read the rule set for FSP again. If i'm close to being full built on the Celica for those rules, i may delay the swap another season and throw a new clutch in and see what i can do, but i think it's WAY too far down on power to do anything. It's no rocket to begin with, but this is a suspiciously weak example. Which is strange, because it's smooth, doesn't burn a drop of oil, doesn't leak anything, timing is spot on. The only thing i haven't checked is compression, but i doubt it would run as well as it does or not consume any oil if it were that bad.

Our ES Miata didn't burn any oil and only had a VERY small front seal leak, turned out 30whp down on power. Still good for top-10 PAX at DC SCCA events, which typically have around 20 "Tour" drivers at them. Not too bad. Maybe we can FTP sometime once the motor is back on.

I do know that i've got a pretty bad exhaust manifold leak on the Celica, and i GUESS that could cause some power loss, but man... I ran a 15.9 quarter mile in my old 93 GT with a full interior on all-seasons, bone stock. I'd jump for joy if this thing could run faster than a 17.0 fully gutted with way more tire. It's depressingly slow. It's sad when i plop down in the Escort, goose it through 2nd gear, and my brain says "Holy crap we're flying!". It's a damn Escort with a sick BP that doesn't even run right.
