Hi guys,

I've passively liked Mavericks since introduction and have wanted to kick myself about 50x for not ordering one when they debuted.

That being shared, fast forward to today and I find out a buddy at a Ford store has gotten in a 2023 hybrid that was a client's order that they ended up not taking (bought something else).

While I'm not over the moon on the color, it's got the few options I would want.  I can buy it at MSRP and actually have a private offer from Ford in hand that will save me a bit off too.

Am I crazy to go grab this truck??   I don't need to tow or carry anything heavy with it.  In this market around $25k is cheap for any new vehicle, let alone one with a bed AND the ability to provide 40 mpg.  I've read Tom's thread, is there anything else I need to know?

Check recall status. I think some of the hybrids were on a "don't drive" type recall. Otherwise, grab it.

I would see a Maverick, bought with no mark-up, as a way to drive a car for free a few years.   If not free, far less depreciation that the average vehicle.

 Factors working in your favor:
1. So many people bought them over MSRP that I expect that will keep used retail at a high price.
2. Ford is raising new MSRP quickly and that too will keep used retail high.
3. Hybrid is shaping up to be the one to have as even Ford is now charging a premium for the hybrid over the 2.0t.

Factors working against you:
1. Current interest rates!!!

I'm not going to talk you out of it, it's the new car I'd be most likely to buy!

In reply to John Welsh :

You're right on all accounts.  Funny enough I was looking seriously at a Chevy Bolt as the incentives are crazy.  However there are few of them and many are sold over sticker even though they drop like a rock in value.

This truck popped up and is rated 40 city, 33 highway and it struck me like these are retaining a ton of value while being an economical and more useful alternative to the Bolt.  Then I remembered that I got a private offer from Ford for $750 off of most vehicles including Maverick and it made me warmer on the idea.

I just checked and if I ordered a new 2024 it would sticker around $2500 more for the same equipment.  Who knows what it will be by the time a factory order would actually arrive?

You are right on interest rates, but the truck is cheap enough that the rate isn't too much of a challenge (I work in auto lending).  It looks as though rates will start to ease in 12-18 mos.  If the savings are great enough I'll refinance it down the road.

I have a 23 Ecoboost XLT lux package with copilot 360, I'm pretty happy with it. Only major dislike is how noisy the direct injection can be sometimes.

It's hard to tell how the retained value will hold up in the next few years as production catches up to demand.

Some of the hybrids are having engine exploding problems, so check that it's not in the recalled range. https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/consumer-alert-important-ford-and-lincoln-fire-risk-recall

The bed features make it pretty durn useful for it's size. I got a cheaper garage door style tonneau that took away some space, but the security was worth it for my use.

I like mine. A friend with a tacoma said my back seat looks bigger than his. It's working with carseats for me, though my 3yo is in kick my seat range with his present car seat, but I'm moving him up to a fixed back booster.

I forget, do the '23 XLs still not have cruise control? That would be the big thing stopping me.

I think they did, but I have heard some stripper fleet version might not ..  Probably something to check and be sure on.

let's see, things that might be annoying. For maps and anything beyond phone calls, you need to plug your phone in via cable (or get a wireless adapter). Lotta torx fasteners to drop the belly pan for oil changes. Several things you would have expected it to come with that are aftermarket extra to do. (tray for center console cubby, tailgate shock, etc)

Buy a slightly used Ford Flex. Cut off the roof behind the rear doors.

Voila - exactly the same thing for a lot less money.

You're welcome.

Where is the build thread?

BUY IT. BUY IT. BUY IT. BUY IT. BUY IT

XL hybrids are unicorns it seems like. I was 100% going to order an XL hybrid since the 2023s come with cruise control and power mirrors. Buuuuut Cyber Orange isn't offered on the XLs so I ended up with a zero-options XLT in Cyber Orange.

I don't like car payments. That's my only argument against.

And...

It was sold before I got there.  Damn it.

Long story short, I let myself get analysis paralysis and somebody else slipped in there and bought it.

I would point out that it seems the order turn around time seems to be down to a few months and should be for MSRP...

Complete 180 on the build but the AWD XLT Ecoboost that I ordered (over a year ago) is finally hitting the dealer in the next few weeks and I'm not taking it, if someone wants it. Assuming it's not already spoken for, I think the dealer got the message and hasn't tried to contact me in a while.
