Re: Ford 302. Don't forget how small they are. 18" wide across the exhaust manifolds. Lighter than SBC, but not by a bunch. 4"x3" bore/ stroke gives a lot of revvability. Cheap. Mustang guys are always selling stuff so they buy that newest widgit.

Whats wrong with an E30 with an M50 swap or similar? They arent any more expensive that V8s, and IMO hack job V8 swaps arent nearly as impressive as cleanly done bolt together jobs.

I can get complete running 302 donors for a hair less than $1000. When I see M50 swaps for sale they are usually asking ~$2000. We don't have many BMWs in junkyards 'round these parts. Do you know something I don't? I drove an M50 swapped e30 and it was a HOOT!
http://www.e30v8.com/ for the BMW
Granny's Speed Shop for the V8 RX-7 stuff.
Below is our 5.0 first gen RX-7 Lemons car. Before getting the tires and going through the brakes we only had $1200 in the car including the cage and race seat.
I picked up a 2005 50k mile 4.8 vortec for $285 at the local LKQ. They offered me as many 4.8/5.3 motors as I wanted at that price if I could wait a couple of days but I wanted to take one home that day so I went home with a 4.8. Near 300/300 hp/tq and will stand quite a few 200 shots or lots of boost. The T56 isn't cheap, but for a challenge car a TH400 or a 4L80e is a good option. I say stick with a FC for the swap candidate. The suspension will put you in the top 10 at the challenge with minimal mods and the rear will hold up to 10 second drag runs with no mods. 9's with an auto .
M50 is just a normal E36 325i engine right? There are are at least 2 or 3 there every time I go to the junkyard, and they would be the same price as a 302 (Its been a while since i bought a whole engine, but a few months ago a long block was $125), and possibly even easier to find.

The other half is taken up by a fully (and i mean FULLY) built to the hilt S13 coupe, a tire changer, and 5 motors and a few transmissions. And a hoist, a couple toolboxes, and 3 engine stands. Oh, and a grill. Gotta have a grill. There IS a loft, though?DIBS!
I've got a loft too, lol.
