Not sure exactly how it goes but...
There's no such thing as too much horsepower. Just not enough traction.

“More horsepower? Heavens no. Boring out the block achieves a useful weight saving!”
- Chevrolet engineers, on the switch from 396 to 427 for the '66 Corvette. Or so claimed R&T in a 1985 article.
Pretty much everything PJ O'Rourke ever wrote about cars.
On that stands out was his review of a Rent-A-Wreck Mustang in LA:
“a full nine yards of ruptured Mustang grille with one headlight pointed at Voyager 2 and the other searching for nightcrawlers.”

Driving Like Crazy is full of great quotes. It's been many years since I read it but I should again

A similar one:
"There's no replacement for displacement "
Years ago C&D had a quote from a Michelin behavioral engineer. Paraphrasing:
"When given the choice between avoiding an accident by turning at 0.4gs and hitting a tree, most people choose the tree."
"If I could have all the money I spent on cars back, I would spend it on cars"
(not sure where it is from)
Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?
George Carlin
I've always liked:
"You can live in your car, but you can't race your house."
Which partly explains why I daily drive a V12 Aston Martin and have more E30 M3s than I should while living in an apartment in the city.
"Normally I would say this handles like a refrigerator full of bowling balls, but this is even worse. This handles like a nun carrying a mattress." - David Freiburger.
"Hey Dad, how come when they are drag racing they don't actually drag anything? I think it would be entertaining. "

My all time favourite:
"I spent most of my money on slow horses, fast cars and loose women. The rest of it, I wasted."

Did you tell him about tractor pulls?
ObQuote: "The turbo hits late and hard, like the cannons in the 1812 Overture."

There was a similar quote regarding safety devices.
"If we wanted people to drive more safely, we'd put a sword in the steering wheel, not an airbag."
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
I still think steel dashboards, rigid steering columns and weak brakes make better drivers.
When I was having my Miata tuned, the tuner was talking about another car in the shop and described it as "revs like a mutant chainsaw", which I've been known to use on occasion.
