I started out searching for a thrifty LSD for my auto-x Mini. A CL factory torsen is in my budget. I wish I could justify the Quaife or OS Giken. Internets say the 2003 Focus SVT has the torsen, better gearing and is the same Getrag box. Does anyone know if this is a "simple" swap when I change my clutch?
I'd expect at the very least you'd have to split the case and use the mini's bellhousing half. Then there's the question of if the inner CVs use the same spline count and seal.
Once upon a time I read that the SVT guts will fit in a MINI case. There was no more detail than that. I've wondered how doable it is because I've occasionally seen MINIs cheap because of the trans failing (not very often on the Getrag) and there are SVT transmissions available for $200-250.Figure it out and you can be an internet hero.
E36m3 I've seen svt foci for less than an lsd would cost for a mini. Buy it, part it, free tranny. Better yet, buy it, terminator swap it, have a free tranny and a hilarious rwd focus with mustang power.
Best case it's a simple bellhousing swap. Worst case I only steal the SVT torsen
I don't see an advantage of the Quaife over the factory Torsen. They're both similar helical-gear type LSD's.

ummmm, i've never heard of any SVT focus trans coming with any sort of limited slip. might want to check that first.
My SVT doesn't have one. I don't think any of them did.

There isn't really any difference to them other than the torque ratio. IIRC, torsens will do up to a 66/33 split whereas the Quaife will do up to a 75/25 split. Both of them also become open differentials if a front tire comes off the ground.
