Hi everyone - first time caller, longtime enthusiast. I'm a 32 year old mechanical engineer, wife & two kids, longtime diy-er, ride dirtbikes, have a Buell, plus an '03 Mini Cooper S with 123K that just lunched a rod bearing due to a sudden and massive oil leak.

Now that we've gotten the introductions out of the way, let's talk some shop!

I finished pulling the engine out today (surprisingly painless procedure - zee Germans are pretty clever). My plan is to have the crank ground oversize on the lobe that lost the bearing and replace EVERY seal that touches oil. I've also still got the original rubber ring, failure prone crank pulley on there, so that's getting replaced as well.

Given the age & mileage and more or less unknown maint. history (I bought it 6 months ago from my inlaws - great people but totally clueless about cars), what are the other preventative maintenance things I should do while I've got the engine out?

I'm thinking: s/c oil, belt & tensioner, maybe pop the cam out and check its bearings. Anything else? New piston rings? Is there a replacement interval on the timing chain assembly?

All input welcome! Thanks for taking time to read my long post!

Following with interest- I've got one with 130k down for the same reason.
