This is the first road race that I remember attending. My dad wrote the insurance for the race and we attended both years. I remember thinking this is pretty coool having race cars on the street. The other thing that impressed me was using a garbage bag as a raincoat (I was 6 years old)

Very cool. At the 6 minute mark they show the foot race for the LeMans style start!

Pretty awesome. Amazing that there was a time that something like that could even GET insurance.
Now, between NIMBY and insurance, forget it.
Thats awesome, definitely an insurance impossibility.. pylons! hah..
I seem to recall the SCCA ran a rally through the city of Detroit in the 70s (maybe) that must have been a hoot.

Very cool! I remember wanting to go to that race....CanAm cars on the street. Wow!
Although not as fast (vintage only), we are ~still street racing~ in Pittsburgh.

the walkway is south of Orchard lake road/Auburn ave on the northbound side. I'll have to look closer when I drive home tonight. It's bright and silver in the video, of course now it's rust brown
I'm looking on google earth, and I don't see it! I remember it though!

Press on Regardless started on Belle Isle one year. The Rally guys over on Specialstage have talked about it. There is video of it on YouTube.
SCCA still autocrosses on Belle Isle, but it just isn't the same....
Ok, guess I was wrong, the cross over is gone. I'll have to make a few more passes to be sure (and work on my lap time)
