HI
im looking for a solid racing/tuning school.
every time i search i get the same stuff i already know about. bondurant (too far away), the stuff at road atlanta (skip barber), VIR (closest track to me) seems to only get open wheel driving schools (skip barber and bertil roos). summit point is listed in skip barbers "other" tracks but i cant seem to find what the school does there..
SO
that said
what im looking to learn more than anything is race car tuning. Mostly suspension (how to pick the right springs, how to properly adjust camber, castor, toe, rebound ETC.. and why you adjust those things). id really prefer that came along with a solid driving class since i learn better from first hand experience.
so say i went to take skip barbers mazdaspeed miata or high performance class, would that have appropriate suspension instruction. or is there like a specific racecar building school that would be better suited to my needs..
Thanks

the only thing I know of that is a race/prep school is Jim Russel...too far away. buy a book called "Competition Car Suspension" it will have everything you need to know, and you can take it to your car and read instead of trying to remember what the instructor tought you. That's how my dad learned to tune his open wheel car, and our friend who does oval track stuff.
Good Luck with it,
Steven
that sounds like a start.
ill look into jim russel too.
Thanks

Your best bet is to tag along with someone running a spec racer class at the track. The spec racer guys are constantly tweaking the suspension, because that is about all they can do to the car. They got camber gauges, strings, scales, etc. out after just about every track session. Looks like a lot of work from an IT racers perspective.
Anyone else know anything..
suspension isnt all i want to learn..
complete race car prep school would be perfect
