Turbo 4, suspension and rally tires or snows. I haven't heard good things about Volvo V6's
Look up Swedish rally series on YouTube....all the volvos you could ever want to see sideways on dirt
Let's put it this way:
A Volvo 240 can be set up to be competitive at rallycross, and can still be fun for autocross if you throw on a set of good tires.
A Volvo 240 set up for autocross will not be compeititive at autocross (unless it's a crazy extreme build), and will also be terrible and not fun at all for rallycross.
Pick the first option, so you can enjoy doing both with a simple wheel change.
I think the strengths of the vovlo 240 (it's main strength is strength, actually!) are more suited to Rallycross. Plus, Irish makes an excellent point about not closing doors on yourself.
And do a build thread. Because when I got my e30 for rallycross, my second choice was a Volvo 240, so I definitely want to see how it turns out!
opposed to a V6 turbo grab a turbo lump from the 740 and swap it in :) and +1 on the build thread. I'm always tempted to get a sedan or 242 to prep for rally-x to go with the monster wagon
