In case you guys haven't seen it, there's a Ran When Parked section over on our Classic Motorsports site. We're itching for some new submissions, and I know you've spotted 'em. Derelict diesel Rabbits, corroding CRXs, AWOL AW11s, rusting RX-7s, other cars I can't alliterate with. Head on over and put some up. The submission form is on the bottom right of this page:
http://classicmotorsports.net/ran-when-parked/
Bonus challenge: alliterate car name and condition. Go.

I like looking through that section until I come to photos from the local Cars and Coffee and whatnot. I suppose they literally were running when they were parked. In the parking lot. 15 minutes before the photo was taken.
I'll have to stop and take a few pics of some local derelicts to add to the mix.
I have a whole driveway of these!!!
-A Transient Trans Am
-A Sad Shelby CSX
and lately...
-A Decrepit Dodge Dakota
I'll snap some pics real soon.

Me too!
'84 944 with a slight headgasket leak. Still runs (with a jump), but puts on a pretty good smoke show once it warms up. That one is scheduled for Garage time as soon as the 2nd race car is finished.
'94 Passat GLX VR6 5 speed. That one still runs with a jump too. Bad heater core and PS pump. I'm going to be fixing that one soon too, since I have someone who wants to buy it.
'68 VW Fastback - Ran like crap 15 years ago, been in the garage ever since.
'64 VW Notchback - Master cyl. died. Would likely still run and drive with a new battery and the carbs cleaned out.
However, I won't be sending pics, as I'm ashamed and sad that I let them get to the point that they're at.
My Trans Am will run once I put a new starter in it. The engine in the car has just over 1000 break-in miles on it. The ill-fitting headers I installed hit the stock starter and destroyed the solenoid. I have a mini-starter but I need to remove or BFH the header out of the way to install it. That and it spat a rocker arm off.
The CSX still needs the outer rockers welded in and the fuel system installed. If my stupid Dakota will stop nickeling and diming me to death, I can have time to fix it.

I've got a few....guess I need to get the camera out.
You guys could run the same pic of my Europa you used when it was in the project cars section. :D
1991 VW GTI 16V. It has been sitting in my garage since I bought it 11 or 12 years ago. Right now it needs a cat back exhaust and it should run just fine. I started it an hour ago just to see if it still runs, and it does. Only 53K showing on it and it's in great shape, perfect interior, exterior has some peeling clear coat and some dry window seals. I really should put it on the road this year.
My turbo Firefly
There's a beauty just around the corner. I'll see if I can get it over the weekend.
This is quickly turning into a crap can competition.
The difference is that the "ran when parked" cars usually are desirable in some small way

I can snap a picture of my 1800ES, although it was in the same condition when it was parked in my back yard. On the good side, stripping the car essentially to a bare shell seems to have slowed additional rusting.
Ian:
Please post pics! I feel like I know that car and yet I have never had a glimpse of what you are up against.

The Broken Bug...
'69 VW Bug....sat from 1980-1992 when I bought it from my uncle. I fixed it up, drove it full time through '97, then used it as a weekend driver, them took it off the road when it needed brake work and some rust repair in the battery tray in '99. It's been sitting since and now needs. A full rebuild and a ton of rust repair.
Hoping to start working on it next year.
Wow, how time flies!
I recall the last time you did this call for "Ran When Parked". I had just picked up this Bugeye, that was parked in 1972 and since all I had was old fashion photographs, the resolution was too small for the mag.
Just so you know, some "Run Again"
Had a few issues under the immaculate paint after sitting for 30 years.
And back with her original owner where she will probably repeat the cycle! That was a quick 10 years.
Here's some Geriatric GTV's.
The near one is a '72 model that was parked in '85 with 57k miles, then promptly grenaded when fired back up in the 90's by my father.
The far one is a '74 model and was the old mans AutoX/Track Toy in that same era.
