Deep thoughts from today:
-
When driving 70 on the parkway, and a Nissan Cube is approaching in the rearview at a high rate of speed (probably 90+), it bobs and weaves all over the (smooth) road. That, combined with the grille/headlight design, gives the impression of a malicious little gremlin chasing you.
-
Automotive commentary from my 2 1/2 year old daughter, who is already adept at opening the wrx's doors from the outside and climbing behind the wheel and likes to beep the horn to get the dog riled up.
-
"Oily rags are fun"
- "I drive a pink car"
- "Why are there numbers in a dog's food can?" (referencing boost gauge on my steering column)
- "let Finny drive" (Finn is the dog)
- "open the roof I need to see birds" (sunroof, that is).
(according to my wife, who borrowed the wrx today -with babyseat- since I needed her SUV to haul stuff)
- "mommy, don't crash daddy's car"
She was also nice enough to help me clean up the garage today. Teaching her early!

Enjoy it, pal. Tomorrow she's gonna bring over her new 23 yo boyfriend, and make an announcement about tattoos.
thanks for ruining the moment for me
If you are "reasonably" lucky, she will start bugging you for her own car at the age of 12. Not so lucky? She will want a Vega she found "really cheap, like $1000."
Don't worry I have a glimpse of the lovely attitude saturated teenage years in my stepson and I've still enjoying my 2 year-old's obsession with cars.
He loves my Scirocco and will go out of his way to to marvel at it, pat its hood and announce that its "Cool!"
My wife grumbles and says he just likes it because its his size. ;)
Most of the time he's riding in Mom's Mazda6 Wagon. he only time he's ever ridden in the Scirocco was to go to the doctor. To get several shots.
He must really love that car.

Even worse, She'll bring home a guy just like you.
My youngest daughter (age 23 now) current boyfriend is a Honda Fanboi - as in everything is better with a Honda engine. And no permanant job. He has a right hand drive CRX and an S2K too low to get in my driveway without scrapping and my driveway is street level with a gradual slope to the house. Show only type. Previous boyfriend drives (and autocrosses) a Miata. Cell phone sales.
Now the oldest daughters (age 27 and now married) boyfriends were kinda fun, they were scared of me
I am super stoked that my 9 year old's dream car is a Mazda Miata, Its a sure sign I am raising her right
Proof positive you are an excellent Dad!!!!
My son (he is 5) and I drove my daughter back to Uconn last night. We spent the entire trip discussing road signs. What them meant the colors etc (it was a 1.25 hour drive each way) IT was a great time!!! By the time we got back he was telling me what was coming up and would get mad when signs were missing for various thing. (stop lights were what seemed to bug him the most)
Enjoy these times. .. Take lots of photos and video is even better!!!
my sons love mustangs. Stupid GM killing the camaro during their formative years.
oldest one does want my S13 though, he also was supposed to get my firebird i had 2 years ago.
Both my daughters report back to me when mom "scrubs the wheels" on a curb.
As a side note my kid has the quickest plastic power wheels (red Mustang) in the neighborhood.
My 3 year old son loves my cars, especially my 74 REPU. He calls it Kermit the truck, and whenever we can't find him he is in the garage behind the wheel of the REPU,or one of the other cars shifting gears, and making zoomy sounds. He was even telling everyone he met for a while about my RX-4 losing the clutch slave cylinder, and that is why we can't drive it. I spoke of selling the truck a year or so ago,and he was heartbroken. I guess that means I have to keep it for him. Whenever we go to a cruise night or car show he has to have me pick him up so he can see in the cars interior so he can see the shifter. His 7 year old brother likes the cars, but not on the same level. Both of them like the trips in the car that involve ice cream. I have no idea why.
Chris,
We need a NE gathering of the old guard from MARX7. Maybe we could add in some of the GRM crowd. Since many of us now have kids it would be fun.
The bad = when my kids started to call my red 2000 expedition "the big red car" From The Wiggles for those of you that don't have kids. Being compared to Wiggle was kind of embarrassing.
Somehow we got this:

The worst was the kids telling everyone that dad has "the big red car" Letting my wife take custody of it seemed the only proper thing to do.

I can relate; I loved drives in dad's Mustang LX (with the 5.0, of course) with the top down to get Frosties.

I mean, now you've room for a 'proper' car, no?
