Cheap Porsches terrify me, and while I have the means to absorb the financial impact of a single blown Porsche engine that is not how I would like to see my emergency funds be spent.
Sounds like your friend doesn’t have to be concerned with that, and to him I’d say “beautiful car! Enjoy!” If he’s happy, I’m happy for him.
IF he really wanted that color and doesn't care about resale, he did... fine. There's not really a cheaper way to get it unless you're considering resale as recuperating part of the 'cost'.
If he is happy and the car doesn’t turn into a boat on wheels (ie a money pit), then all is well.
