Interestingly, when Toyota made the ST205, they widened the track so much that the car was slower than the ST185...

I have a friend, who I might add is also a GRM'er, who may need to rip up his patio to solve a basement water leakage issue. Would it be possible to set up a small poltiical thread so that we may get enough people involved for Marjorie to lay out a new patio for him?

Ha! It wasn't intended to be political, but I can see how it might come across that way.
A less potentially inflammatory way to put it might be "because America is not the primary sponsor of said racing vehicle, and thus has no say in the livery selection".

There may not be anything in the world more overdone that Gulf-Anything. I like the Motorcraft scheme, too bad they couldn’t get 7-11 for the other one.
If you really wanted obscure, you could always go with the original Gulf colors.
