So my 2011 Outback through a code (P171), but Subaru doesn't seem to think a simple check engine light is enough.......the dash flashes the brake light and cruise control at the same time.
If that isn't enough it also disabled the automatic park brake.release (if you buckled up the brake will shot release)
Seems like total overkill to me. Note I cleared the code and it's stayed off for several days.
Understood what the code is (searched numerous forums) but maybe Subaru could install an alarm in case I don't notice the dash flashing like Christmas tree lights.
Subaru also (at least on my 2006) conveniently disables the cruise control to "encourage" you to find repairs.

Standard feature carried over from the WRX, trying to make sure owners can see the CEL through the vape clouds..

o2 sensor code
It's a lean code. It could be a failing sensor, or more likely it's a vacuum leak or false air leak. Or a dirty MAF. Or a leaf got sucked through the air snorkel and stuck in just the right spot on the air filter. (Had that happen)

Pretty sure Subaru has done this on every vehicle with drive by wire. Engine control problem means no cruise control. If there's any issue at all, they don't want to risk the engine running away. It's way simpler to do a blanket "MIL = no cruise" than to try to break down all of the different failures that could result in the cruise functioning improperly (besides the obvious throttle/pedal related faults, a network fault could mean it won't see a brake application, for example) OR the risk that there is a control related fault that the checking algorithms improperly diagnosed, which is a thing that happens always.
I sometimes wonder whether the Japanese hired GMs abs programming lawyers. Toyota turns off all the stability control stuff when you set any engine code.
Perhaps you gentleman do not remember 60 Minutes and the Audi 5000 debacle. Or the Toyota floor mat crisis.
Car companies are not happy to have it shown that their vehicles cannot be stopped with the brakes.
