What is the deal with the rear caliper?

The book says to turn it in, but it won't go. I have never had to deal with threaded brake pistons before, is there some trick I don't know about? If I turn it the other way it will come out but it WILL NOT go in.

Any constructive help would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

It can be a bitch if you've overextended it, but you should just be able to carefully turn it back in while applying pressure inward. Are you using a tool or trying to do it by hand? 'Cuz you're gonna want the right tool for the job. One of these guys from Harbor Freight makes it much easier, and then you're ready for any other threaded pistons you come across.

This car has so much deferred maintenance it is scary.

The calipers on our Mazda3 are also thread in, and even with the tool it is a bitch, as you have to apply a LOT of pressure, while also turning it fairly quickly, to get it to work. It's always a bit of a workout. Fortunately that car only goes through a set of brakes every 80-100k.

Ha. I always just used a pair of needle nose pliers and a screw driver to turn them back in.
