I've used Honda-tech myself but its almost all fanboi's sadly, the road racing/autocross forum is good but it does have a lot of e-thuggery...

As for finding a 2nd gen CRX, I honestly believe craigslist would be your best friend. A clean one is hard to come by but they pop up every once in a while. Try Honda-tech's regionally divided for sale forums if you dont have much luck.

As for what engines fit in the engine bay... pretty much whatever you want... Hasport has mounts for putting anything from a V6 to just replacing mounts on your d-series in it... If you jumped up to an EG or EK civic, you COULD actually do a K20 with AC if you wanted. I think the shops name is Hybrid Racing that makes swap-in kits and even has an optiona A/C line kit.

A B16 is a good option, I have one in my EK. But in a car as light as a CRX, a D-series may not be a bad option as they actually have more torque. If you match it with the right d-series transmission or just do a final drive swap you could have a fun little DD with the factory AC and PS stuff.

Try Hybrid Honda Perf . Years ago, I learned about putting a ZC in my 2nd gen AWD wagon, from that website. I haven't read the forum in the last decade, but when I was actively reading it, it was a pretty decent bunch, without the fanbois.

I used to be a regular on honda-tech.com, until they sold out to a corporation that wanted to run it as a business. When they told me I couldn't put a link to my book in my sig, I removed a big informative thread I'd authored, figuring if they didn't want me there, I'm not going to let them make money off my free contributions. That didn't go over so well... I'm now on K20A.org, but obviously it's just for K-series engines - unlike you, I "need" 400hp

Funny thing around here is most of them arent into Hondas anymore. They all jumped ship and went super JDM dorifto. So now its just drift fanbois.

onecamonly.com for all your single-cam D series tech. Good signal to noise ratio.

I'm still looking for a good B series resource. Basically just been using the search function on honda-tech, or venturing into the hybrid or all-motor sections.

D-series is about as good as it gets.

As for finding a 2nd gen CRX with a sunroof that isn't rusted out, good luck!

That said, an Si with bolt-ons and an ECU reflash can be a very fun car.

I'll throw my hat in the D-series.org ring. Lots of smart people on there.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with an crx, if it were me and I wanted something fun to play with, I'd drop a b18b with cable trans, then go from there. As the cable trans' are very cheap when compared to the hydro ones.

Though I like the d's as well.

I'd sooner just come here.

Honda-tech seems consumed with "stance" these days--not that I've been there in awhile.

The Honda thing is way underground again, but it's mutated into an offshoot of what the VW trendwhores are doing. Tough to find actual enthusiasts these days.

Allegedly, NWP4life.com is a decent forum, but I'm guessing it's very trendwhorish as well.

hybrids.jp is decent. http://crx.honda-perf.org/ is decent. A LOT of the folks who brought good knowledge 5 years ago have moved on, so you're seeing 2nd generation tards infest a lot of the forums, but whatchagonnado?

That said, there are SOOO many swapped CRX's already, that I bet you could find what you want already built.

As for the what options are there question, any of the B Motors can keep AC. Supercharging the D16 can keep AC. Some turbos can keep AC, but it gets crowded. Building up the D16 can keep AC.

There was (as of yesterday) a 2nd gen CRX HF on the Memphis CL for all of $1000. As for the engine and the ability to keep A/C? A B16 or B18 will work, the 18A gives you about 140 HP before doing any mods in a car that weighs less than 1900 lbs.

As a Crx Si owner, I feel your pain. Mine is actually for sale, and it's all stock. AC doesn't work right now. They are getting harder to find, even since I started looking just two years ago. I love it, but hate the "ricer" persona that goes with it. Anyway, Crxsi.com has a few DIY articles, ads, tech info. The forums are not that great. redpepperracing.com is decent, but more for 1st gen. Can't help you with the swap question though. Good luck!

Model specific forums seem to be your best bet. I'm a moderator on a model specific forum for old Accords, and as a whole, we're pretty much anti-rice. Usually, if someone with the ricer mentality shows up, they either lose that mentality or they leave. Harsh group of people sometimes.

Truth. Know how every model-specific forum have 1 truly knowledgeable person for every 20-25 members? Everyone on this board is one of those knowledgeable members (present company excluded).

I'll throw a good word in for http://www.crxcommunity.com . Cool people, lots of knowledge. I've also enjoyed http://www.hondacivicwagon.com , specifically for the EE chassis (yes, they're different from the EF), but if you're only looking for CRX stuff then that's not the perfect forum, even though there's a lot of crossover.

You'll need to log in to post.
