SO, I have begun to replace/change the intercooler on my MR2, putting in an aftermarket one. While in there, and piping removed, I decided it'd be a good idea to pull off the heat shield over the turbo manifold/turbo and repaint. It's a bit rusty.
Second bolt of the three snapped and it's pretty flush with the manifold
WHAT DO I DO?
What do I need to get this out and replace it?
It's in a factory cast manifold? Honestly it's probably fused to it pretty solidly so you may have to drill it out.
What would I do? Weld a nut to the manifold and bolt the heat shield to that instead, probably.
Drill and retap is probably the easiest solution.
Yes, the factory cast one

I think this will work - it's at a slight angle and it's not easy to reach.
This sucks.
Might be worth trying a left hand drill bit. If you're lucky, you'll be able to spin the broken stub out with it. Might as well try penetrating oil and heat beforehand to give it the best chance of success.
If it doesn't work, grab a larger bit and get ready to tap some new threads.
There is a good chance that the fastener is crystallized, and is now harder than any drillin' device you have. I'm not saying don't try various methods above, but don't be disappointed if nothing works.
Two bolts is probably enough to hold the heat shield on.
I like the "weld on a nut to screw it to" method.
