These were really super little cars in their day (late 60's) Put out about 100 bhp from 1300cc. I'd love to own one. They are a popular classic in Europe, particularly France. I believe they were never sold in North America? Has anybody seen one over here?

I have seen a few, including one in my old neighborhood in Atlanta. I don't know if it lived there or was just visiting.
I don't think the Gordini was available here, but I'm pretty sure the regular R8 was.

The rear camber would fit right in with the radical hellaflush crowd and their weird stances!
When I was in high school, my friend's parents bought him a Renault 17 Gordini. I don't know how the hell that happened, but at least I know that those were sold here. Of course, I've never seen another, so that may have been the only one.
Which is a good thing.

I really like rear engine renaults. So much so that I went and bought one. I picked up a '68 R10. I thought my daily driver is a fiat 850 how hard could this be?
It turns out there is almost zero support in the states for them. There are 2 vendors and both seem to be afraid of having a web presence.
Despite all the hate for old renaults they have a rich and varied racing history

The legendary Alpine A110 is just R8/R10 under the skin
That's not quite true - the oily bits are, but the chassis isn't IIRC.
SCCV member had one. Same color as one shown. Regularly near or at FTD in our events.
I saw this in Vancouver, BC

There must have been at least two gordini's sold here. I worked with a guy who bought one new and still owned it in 2000. I only saw it with a car cover on, but I do remember him saying the cloth/vinyl sunroof was in perfect shape.
He also claimed that the car would out accelerate the smogged out camaro's and mustangs of the day.

There is an Alpine running around Frederick, MD. I saw it going past my house several times last summer. Unfortunately I never had a camera handy
A friend of mine had one and every summer he had to rebuild the engine. That's what he planned to do on his vacation.
