1967 Rochester 2jet. The throttle shaft bore is wallowed out. I tried putting a bushing in it but its so wallowed out that the bushing just falls out.

Throttle shaft shows a consistent diameter, just the hole is yucked up.

After a month of searching, I have not found a 2GC to scavenge the TB. Is there something I can do to repair this one? Epoxy? JBWeld? I have the right size reamer... should I braze it shut and redrill?

Make a bigger bushing on the lathe? Otherwise, braze it shut and redrill wouldn't be a bad idea, if you can get the holes lined up. Or brazing the bushing in place. Even JB Welding the bushing in place would probably work.

I bought a kit for my Qjet years ago from I believe The Carburetor Shop. It was a long drill bit that was stepped to guide itself into the bore and a set of bushings held in place with green Loctite. It worked well but you had to be very steady drilling the hole.

My local auto parts store can get appropriate sized bushings. I made a cutter to machine the bore larger, referencing the center between the barrels. Then some loctite and it's good.

Sorry, not a whole lot more pictures. It went easily, so I neglected to take more pics.

Are you looking to get it done or DIY? If your plans are for sending it out I am sure the Holley Custom Speed Shop could take care of it... Have never used them myself, but it is Holley...

With a steady hand, proper jigging, and judicious application of the JB, I see no reason not to go this route.

I have that kit, except from Jet Performance. I have done a few Qjets with it, but when I put the bushing in the bore it has little or no resistance. The point of those brass bushings is so that they compress when you press them in, then the reamer re-finishes it to the right size. Mine, the bushing just kinda falls in, then the reamer fits like a hot dog in a hallway.

I either need to find a thicker bushing or find someway to adhere this one in place.

... Or braze it, but I'm a little sketchy when it comes to brazing.

In reply to curtis73:

Mine slipped in but the green Loctite holds them in. I don't know if that's how they were supposed to be as I did it a long time ago but they worked well enough.

I might give that a try. The way the Jet bushings are supposed to work is that they press in (just tap in with a hammer) so the ID shrinks. Then you use the reamer to return it to nominal size for the shaft. That way it works for a wide range of wear. But the key factor is that it has to press in at least some to shrink the ID. Mine doesn't press in and therefore doesn't shrink the ID and therefore the ID is too large allowing a leak. I put my bushing in and the reamer fits with clearance to spare.

This is a common problem with old cars, and the common solution is to redrill the holes to a larger diameter and then make some bronze/oilite or ideally Torlon bushings to fit the shaft to those larger holes. I have to get that done on my Samurai soon.

That's exactly what I did on my '84 Mustang with the messed up Holly. Ended up doing a few for people. Worked great.
