I guess this may be a boring and non-sporty question but I could use some insight.

2002 Toyota Avalon w/ 168k miles. Recent purchase for me. The rear struts are bad and really noisy. The fronts are likely no better and should be changed too.

When I look on Rock Auto specific to Avalon I see choices for Quick Strut/Ready Mount types complete with new spring, etc for prices from $47 to $157 each. That's a $110 delta. The expensive ones are as much as 3 times more expensive (or the cheap ones 3 times cheaper.)
Are they really 3 times better/worse?
Will I hate the cheap ones for just a daily driver?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of these ultra cheap brands with just initials for names like FCS and OSC?

I think I want full assemblies since this is a 15 yr old northern climate car. Am I wrong? Is building separates the better way to go?
I'm assuming the need for new top strut mounts which the complete sets would already have.

PS: Doesn't have to be from RockAuto. This was just an easy place to reference a number of choices in one place.

Amazon has a full set of 4 from some brand called PRime Choice for $196 shipped!.
RockAuto cheapies come to $250 after shipping.

Check ebay too, i got fronts for the old rendezvous from a place called detroit spring. They were something silly of 110 shipped for the pair and they bolted right in simply and restored the ride with no clunks

You can have them for shipping cost. I have no use for them.

Also check your antiroll bar bushings and endlinks. They can contribute to the noise from the rear. By the way the Avalon was one of my favorite cars to own. It is second only to my current Prius. Reliable as gravity.

Re the struts. I was about due at 193k and was going to go with excel-g from tire rack. But I sold the car. You might want to check them out. But a quick strut is tons easier.

Sensen is pretty good too.

My Mom had that same car--- same color even. She loved it--- probably the favorite car that she's ever owned. Unfortunately it got whacked in a traffic incident, and the car was never the same afterwards. She now drives a Hyundai Azera, which is ok, but she'd trade it for that old Avalon in a second.

As reliable and as cheap to run as a Camry, but with the space of an LS400. The back seat room is massive--- and her JBL stereo sounded pretty good as well.

Good luck with the car--- heck of a comfy DD!

It seems foolish to turn down free but I might just do that.

RockAuto charges $12 to ship one strut so your costs would be similar. If any cheaper, maybe $10.
From there it will cost me like another $30 - $40 for a strut mount, bearing and bellow or $50 total per strut (and that is reusing the spring)
For the same $50 each I can have these Amazon cheapies right to my door.
Seems silly.
