Red Bull Global Rallycross has come to our hometown. We went down to check it out today and were treated to ride-along in this fiendish Hyundai Veloster Turbo. Ride shotgun with us for a couple laps with pro rallycross driver, Emma Gilmour. Incredible how fast they are able to travel on loose dirt with slick tires.
Watch the onboard video here.

Very cool. Every time the tail stepped out there was no pendulum action, just perfect setting up for the next corner. Fun to watch.
I'm not impressed with Emma's lines or gear selection.
I would love to try that.

I kind of agree. She was probably not pushing since it was clearly a promo drive. I think she could have rung more speed through the corners. But that's a fairly big second guess as well.
Yep, I agree that the lap certainly wasn't at race pace. As the guy that was sitting in the passenger seat, I feel like I can explain why.
First of all, I'm pretty sure this was her very first session on track. They have very little in the way of practice at each track. I was also the last passenger she took–she was giving rides in the 100-degree heat for an hour straight, with no cool shirt (they only run those during the official events) or break from the car. So she was probably on the verge of heatstroke, having spent 90% of her time sitting on hot pavement in a car with no windows or ventilation fan. And also, I was talking to her the whole time and screaming a little bit, which must have been quite distracting.

So when do we get the in-car footage then?

Maybe not, but I have no qualms saying that if I were plopped down in the driver's seat I wouldn't be able to do nearly as well as that.
