when using remote reservoirs for master cylinders does the reservoir need to be the highest point of the system? My thought process is that
If fluid does constantly travel downward from the reservoir it could trap air in the low spot, making bleeding difficult. Am I completley wrong here and over thinking?
I would absolutely mount it higher. I'm sure it could be made to work mounted lower, but it would make your life worse in many ways.
FWIW manufacturers always make them the highest point.
Fluid travels downstream why?
Because it’s heavier than air.
And air travels upstream why?
Because it’s lighter than brake fluid.
Air doesn’t get stuck in low spots. Air migrates to the highest spot it can reach. That’s why the reservoir is typically he highest point in the system. And that’s why the bleeder screws are at the top of the caliper or wheel cylinder. Air gets stuck (sometimes) in local high spots, like in a brake tube that is sub-optimally routed.
