And who could blame him? If they play their cards right, they’ll open a full on internet “tv” channel with everyone receiving a budget. Imagine the shows you love most, coming to you with a bigger budget and good editing crew?

I’d love it. SPEED tried it, and failed. Too many crap shows like “horsepower tv”

I subscribed back before this happened simply just to watch Roadkill Garage. As I've said before, I looked at it as buying Freiburger and Finnegan (and later Dulcich, Lucky and Tony) a beer every month. And I would totally do that in real life. Also, I don't have cable or watch any TV, so its a good outlet to watch the other Velocity shows, and I've also gotten more into the other MT shows like Ignition and Head-To-Head. Diret Every Day is a bit too hit and miss for my tastes

I subscribe to it just for roadkill, RK garage, and hot rod garage. The rest of the shows on there are not that great.

Being able to watch through Amazon Prime might make it worth subscribing to me.  The Motor Trend app is terrible, and based on that experience I wasn't willing to subscribe.  Might have to try a month subscription before doing the full year.

Still hard for me to justify basically paying $5 an episode to watch Roadkill (yes I know I can still watch it free, but like I said the Motor Trend app is terrible and doesn't work on Apple TV so I have been watching it on my phone since they made the switch to MTOD), but maybe I will find some other content from MT that will make it more worth it.

I subscribed to it. It's worth it to me to support content I enjoy.

I said it on another Roadkill thread. My buddy uses my Netflix account and i use his MTOD account, i only pay for one thing, he only pays for one thing, everyone wins.

Even though you can access it through their own channel for free, I haven't gone over there to watch one since they stopped doing YouTube.  I realize that doesn't make sense, but I bet my situation is more common than not.  I think it was because I used to watch Roadkill etc. on lunch break at work.  I don't think I've ever watched it at home.  As such I haven't and doubt I will. Also, I was less keen on the more recent shows.  I feel in the first couple of seasons they put all their effort into turning a pile of doo doo into the best thing they could.  Later I felt it was 'let's deliberately make this as hooptie as possible to guarantee spectacular failure, and I started too loose interest slowly when that happened.  Leaving YouTube was the nail in the coffin.

Note, this is in no way in support of youtube or their practices.  Actually thinking about it now, I almost never watch car stuff on youtube at all.  I used to watch Roadkill, Dirt every day, Mighty car mods, Doug DeMuro, Harry's Garage, the smoking tire, petrolicious, all of them.  In the last few months all I've used youtube for is catching up on Indy car races and project Binky.  Maybe I'm just getting board of car programs?

I feel like being at odds with your budget makes your program better. (Old) new Top Gear was more entertaining when they had £100 to spend on a car but you could easily tell they were being filmed by the same sort of crew that did BBC's Planet Earth. Likewise Roadkill was better when they made something shoddily because they didn't have the time to do it right or wait for parts. I'm all for solving your problems by throwing money at them, but a bigger budget isn't a guarantee of a better production.

I see this argument like this:

Person 1: "This is bullE36 M3, how dare roadkill not produce free content for me‽"

Person 2: "It's still free, you just have too..."

Person 1: "IT'S NOT FREE ENOUGH!"

If entertainment is free, is it worthless?

If it's worthless...then shouldn't you be doing something worthwhile?

I think the content providers don't necessarily realize yet that people won't pay specifically for one or two non-fiction programs. They'll spend $12 a month for one of their acting-based serialized "shows" that they "binge" (if that's what they're into), but the non-fiction demographic won't do that.

The live racing alone is well worth the money on mtod.

I'm curious about how you're supposed to be able to watch Motor Trend on Demand shows through Amazon Prime?  I have it, but wasn't able to find anything listed about the Motor Trend shows.

Hell, I can't figure how to disable Firefox's add blocker to watch the free stuff.

I get your point, but look at some of the other posts.  Their current free set up is apparently not very easy to use.  People on this thread are asking how, saying it's not working, ad blocker issues etc.  For all it's faults YouTube is easy to use.

You don't get it free through Prime, you still have to pay extra for the channel.  It shows up under "Your Channels" or you can just search for the shows you want.

Through Amazon does make it better/easier than using the MTOD app, but I don't see an option for a yearly subscription, just monthly.  There is a 7 day free trial.

This is my issue. I am pretty tech savvy and have yet to figure out how to make it work without the signing up for the free trial.

I've never specifically set out to watch roadkill. I turn on YouTube and eventually it comes on. I'm not going to another site to watch anything. I'm not paying for anything. I'm fine if it goes away. Plenty of other car related things to keep me occupied.

Excellent apples to submarines analogy.  Now back to the real world........where YouTube is more addictive than cocaine.....
