I wanted to query the hive mind.. I was going to make a rollbar for the miaotter, and while running through designs in my head, I came up with this question:

If you had a rollbar like this:

Would it be better to make the intersection of the vertical and angled tube (down in the two lower corners)

A) with the vertical sections complete and the angled bars that intersect it cut to match

2) with the angled bars in tact (to the plate, anyway) and the vertical sections cut

*) both verticals AND angled bars cut?

IV) it doesn't really matter, don't you have better things to do with your time?

Assuming that the welding is complete and safe, I'm torn between the first and second options.. I mean, it would appear that the the vertical bars should stay intact in the case of a rollover that is needed to support, but on the other hand, it would seem a touch more strong to roll over (putting the impact on the upper-outer corner) with the cross bars being complete down at the bottom. The last option could be a good compromise in general.

It's probably the last option, eh?

What say the hive?

with the zero knowledge of roll bar how-to's, in my head option A seems like the best to me with option B coming in second.

I thought process is that if both the vertical and angle bars are cut then that would take away from some of the strength of the joint, not having a complete bar all the way though it.

A. Your angled bars, if they fail, are going to do it at the "X" in the middle, not the point where they meet the verticals.

I just modeled it up real quick, so it's not really that well illustrated but of course the X in the middle would be one solid bar with the other cut and fit around it. Just gotta decide if you like the driver or passenger more :)

The vertical bars need to be solid to the mounting plate. Also, one of the two bars should be a solid piece, the other solid from floor to intersection. Most sanctioning bodies will require a taco gusset at the intersection.
