So I've got an FB33 sitting in my shop without an engine. I bought it for $500, and the 12A turned out to be beyond saving. At the same time, I bought a 13B-RE and T-II transmission from a guy for stupid cheap with the intentions of swapping it in. But reality set in, and I probably wouldn't be able to finance the project for a while. Not to mention that swap would put the car out of any stock or street prepared classes.

I decided to list the engine for sale. This morning, I got a text from a guy interested in trading. He's interested in the long block and the intake manifold assembly, not the turbos or transmission, etc. He offered a freshly rebuilt, streetported 13B set up with a Holley 650 and RB header. He says it's apart and he has the kit to rebuild it, so it'll be fresh with new Atkins soft and apex seals.

Sounded sketchy at first and I wasn't completely convinced he was legit, but the more I talked to him the more I realized he was just bad at texting, but knew rotaries pretty well. I'm confident enough to go meet the guy, at least.

So what would GRM do in my situation? The goal here is to have a running car again that I can start putting brakes, suspension, wheels, etc on and enjoy again. This is a little more motor than I was planning on at this point, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The trade would be straight-up, with no cash changing hands.

On the condition you were there when the rebuild took place, I mean it's already apart, and you apparently live close enough to look at the housings and seals as they go together I'd be game as long as when it's said and done the engine fires up and runs.

as stated, besides you can only learn from his experience

I just had another guy call me (the owner/driver of this car: http://panamericanracing.blogspot.com/2007/11/el-malefico-racing.html) and offered the same thing, pretty much to build me an engine in exchange for the 13B.
