I have an 01 Sequoia that I bought a few years back. It came with a roof rack and some lights attached to it; but, I hate how the previous owner had the wiring routed. It's down the window weather channel and I'm getting ready to tackle this project to respray the roof rack, re-do all the wiring, and change the lighting to suit my needs for race weekends and camping.
How does the hive typically route wiring from rooftop electronics? Hole in the roof skin?
What gauge wiring should I use for some basic flood style LEDs and LED accent lighting (for camping)? I already have a switch panel on the interior with an additional fuse/relay box for this type of stuff.
On my old Sequoia (1st gen) I also had them up the A-pillar under the windshield trim but yeah, kind of sloppy looking since they still came outside on the roof. My new Sequoia doesn't have that kind of trim, so I brought mine up under the roof rack feet (drilled a hole and silicone'd it up good).
For my Raider, my wiring goes through the back door using a "cable clam," which a lot of boats use to run wires inside. It's been totally weatherproof. So if you don't mind drilling a hole, a cable clam is a good option. See my current Sequoia build thread and I documented how I did it on tha truck, or my Raider build for that one. They also may give you some ideas for lighting/locations.
I just use regular 14ga for rooftop stuff. LED lights and LED bars don't draw much power. For the new Sequoia I have like 4 switched things up there so I actually used a group cable for trailer wiring (7 wires inside a protective wrap) which gave me my 4 powers and a ground (I have a junction box on my rack for future electrical additions).
