Ok, well, things didn't work out as planned at the SCCA rallycross this past weekend. I'll just copy and paste this post from the Baby Seals F'book page--
"""""SCCA RALLYCROSS April 13 @ St Lucie:
Many of the Baby Seals were in attendance- Jesse, Colin, Nick Donahue, Nick Martinez, Rick, Marti, Robert, Steve, Brent, I hope I'm not forgetting anyone, and of coarse Doug was running the Event. I'm not sure who placed where in the results, but I believe many Baby Seals left with trophies. Somehow, I even left with with 1st in P/F, if you can imagine.
It was a wet muddy mess but thankfully the rain stopped just in time to lay the track out and start racing.
The track was damn near swamp buggy friendly at first, with many small ponds rather than puddles. But, it quickly dried up a bit once we knocked the water out of the holes and scrubbed the surface off of the course.
Nick Donahue, Robert, and myself were racing the Fap Van. I was in Prepared Front and I believe Robert and Nick were in Stock Front. The first few runs, believe it or not the Fap Van was doing great and knocking down times that were competitive with most anything out there. But sadly, it soon started over heating and knocking, and we knew the end was near. Nick, Robert, and I nursed poor wounded Fap along for several more dismal runs, but it was the last desperate act of a mortally wounded soccer mom hauler. We gave it a warm, tear jerking eulogy, and gave up on it, but the story doesn't exactly end there.
Late in the afternoon, we finished up the racing, did our trophy ceremony, picked up all the cones and safety equipment, and people started heading out. Soon, it was just Nick D., Robert, and myself. We loaded the 4-wheeler, all the course cones, safety euipment, etc, into the Fap Van. I started Fap one last time, to a symphony of knocks and rattles, and drove her up on the trailer. I put her in park, on the trailer, and figured I'd give her one last gasp. I floorboarded the throttle and held it down as she coughed her way up to about 4500 rpm, and then---
Baaa Baaa Baaa Baaa, Baaaaaaahh Baaaaaaahhh, Clank Clank Clank, CLANK... THUNK!!!!
Smoke!
Connecting rods AND hot oil went through the oil pan.
Lots more smoke!
Nick and Robert yelled "FIRE!" "It's on FIRE!"
The hot oil ingnited, setting the trailer and Fap Van on fire.
Nick and Robert yelled "Where are the FIRE EXTINGUISHERS?"
The extinguishers were in the van, STUCK IN THE VAN, with me.
I could not get the door open because it was hitting the trailer fender.
Robert and Nick somehow got the door open.
I chucked an extinguisher out the door, and bailed out shiny happy people over elbows.
The fire was extinguished.
Much laughing ensued, as well lamenting the fact that no cameras were rolling.
So there you have it. Sadly the Fap Van is dead, but it was well worth the price of admission, had a great time and a great Rallycross event, and so goes the further adventures of Baby Seals Club Racing. What can we f@ck up next?"""""
So yes, it's dead. It just wasn't meant to be, I guess. I'll try again in a few months. Thanks to all that chimed in. Here's a few pics from last Saturday--
