I've been thinking about this, and what I'd really like to see is them introduce the chassis with a rotary option AND a lower powered piston option.
I know, this is blasphemy. However, given how incredibly hard Mazda took it in warranty claims with the RENESIS and FD RX-7s, this would give an entry level option into a great chassis. Kind of like the V6 Mustang used to be. Given the steep price tag on the RX-9 (80k, or thereabouts, as currently rumored) I can't see much uptake.
Or just MAKE them with LS engines to save us all the trouble.
It really seems its almost every other month someone is coming out with "THE NEW RX97373525274967436"
When mazda puts out an actual press release and or an actual concept I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Especially since the last official press release from Mazda was the CEO literally saying that it's not going to happen.
I...just...don't...get...it. Mazda does arguably the best engineering and design of any company relative to their size. They have a great turbo-four. They have a great RWD chassis. Yet all we get is the Miata and Fiata, and some very well sorted FWD vehicles. The RX-8 would have been a triumph with a better motor. But I've said this all before. So why-oh-why do they persist in wagging dead-sexy, but dead-end rotary powered designs in front of our noses periodically? Miata is the ultimate p---ktease.

Yup. People can believe sketchy websites with fan renderings and Japanese patent applications run though Google Translate all they want, the actual Mazda brass have flat-out said it is not happening multiple times
Hmm...so could there be any correlation between this and the possible Fiat 124 coupe leaked today?
Ew. Can we please go back to clean, simple designs? What is with all this angular, bad geometry E36M3? Seriously, what's up with those rear exhaust ports cut into the bumper or those horrendous triangular fog lights? Please, designers, go back to design school. Ok, rant over. But seriously, I've hated just about everything designed after 2008. It's too bad, because specs and performance have come up so much.
